we are used to 'paper endorsements' that come from journalistic outlets and interest groups, which are just a signal "we think you should vote this vs that" - but DSA is not a journalistic outlet or an interest group. 'endorsement' in this context is not the same.

happy to forward you information about the publicly stated reasoning if you're curious. no need, if you're not curious. IMO, it's good for orgs to decide what an endorsement means to and from them, democratically create criteria, and transparently discuss those with a campaign seeking endorsement.

As someone who administered it hundreds of times... yes. The folks who did poorly on it were mostly a handful of days out from a serious traumatic brain injury.

This is naive. You are not "changing the hearts and minds" of dedicated movement conservatives who think 'deportation abundance' of migrant children is a hilarious punchline. You are giving them a seat at the table based on an assumption of good faith that is WILDLY inaccurate and has zero upside.

yeah... i am open to moral/philosophical arguments in favor of doing something different than what we are doing today (not sure we ever really came close to actually delivering on harm reduction, though). but i'd sure expect to see some evidence in favor of the new approach. pretty absent here?

Ah got it, a bit less of a "how surprising is it that someone with this personal lived experience is endorsing this" and more of a "the overton window on this is shifting meaningfully if someone doing this work is using their platform to elevate this perspective"

Is it really so surprising to hear someone who got sober, likely through one of those "conservative-coded" paths you describe, endorsing that they are the answer? I feel like this is the norm. This person does now work in outreach, but is not a degree-holding/licensed provider that I can see?
