I read a lot of middle school fantasy. My memory believes these are first person - The Witchlings, Amari &the Night Brothers, The Serpent’s Secret, Aru Shah &the End of Time. All are series. Been reading aloud The One and Only Tim series with my 3rd grader. He loves them, & they’re first person.

We usually start it a little before state testing season hits since we have found that to be a good time to get a lot of inventory done. May is too chaotic and full. So we try to have it done before May. We spread it out over 2 months or so.

A1. I don’t usually get to do lessons after iPad turn in. I help collect iPads, &then field days, awards, etc. last 2 days. Activities on fave books:summer TBR could work. Promoting public library summer reading program. A colleague had kids try to arrange the top 10 checkouts in order. #TLSky

A2 I was just working on mine today! I use Canva &have used a template from @tljamesa.com the past few years. www.tljamesa.com/index.php/20... I would overthink what to include &how to layout the EOY &then not have time to pull it together without a template. So a template is a must IMO. #TLSkyChat

And then those last chunk of days we do a little of a lot of different things. Running reports, having teachers touch base, emailing parents, carts around & checking in with kids during study halls, etc. #TLSkyChat

A3. A few years ago we added intentional checkpoints throughout the year to touch base with kids with a book months overdue. That cut down on lost books A LOT. I try to always be approachable & low key in these chats. They seem to help the book’s existence not fall off the kid’s radar. #TLSkyChat

A8 My favorite story today is that an 8th grade boy walked in with a tote bag because he knew we were giving away some weeded books today. He was ready and excited. I can’t pick one for the year though. I have a new favorite story each week. #TKSkyChat

A7 The goal for me is to inventory everything once a year. We start inventory late winter or early spring. Books are still going in and out, but it helps us see what wandered off, needs a new barcode, etc., which prevents wasted time and problems later. #TLSkyChat

A8 Our district librarians get together monthly-ish. My state library org has a listserv and subgroup for school librarians I got introduced to early which was pivotal for me. I also got into EduTwitter when I was transitioning from the classroom to the library. #TLSkyChat
