I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

One of the hard things for me is the realization that they’ve been like this all along. There’s no way to unsee that. Some people just won’t get it until it happens them personally, and that’s really too bad for them, but it also makes them part of the problem, unfortunately.

Oh, man, this one hit me hard.

Remember: If we allow ourselves to fall into fatalism, or wallow in disappointment, or become resigned to what is rather than what should be, we will lose the long game.

It’s a normal, human response to feel pain witnessing the suffering of others. But, yes, the gaslighting is real. I let a friend of 30+ years go over this, after Renee Good’s killing. That was hard, but also a relief.

The kind of apathy you’re describing is how we got into this mess. Tyranny only takes root if we allow it. Stay bothered. Keep speaking out. It makes a difference, despite what deniers and gaslighters might tell you.

Yes, AI hype and bullshit is a thing, and the environmental cost is real, but the study cited is questionable and is not publicly available from MIT. I wasn’t comfortable citing it in an article. Other studies, including from U Penn’s Wharton School, tell a more nuanced story.

If you can afford not to care about politics, it means the system hasn’t come for you yet.
