July 1st is a day of pride and reflection for all of us in Newfoundland and Labrador. As we celebrate Canada Day, we also pause to honour the brave members of the Newfoundland Regiment who served at Beaumont Hamel. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

DDay was the culmination- Months of attacks by the RAF in the lead up and my Grandfather played his part - Including June 5/6. Did they know the impacts of all they worked towards leading up to this day and the days to come ….? So much loss and more to come but what if they didn’t… unimaginable.

Excited for my first visit to LAC! Researching my grandfathers wartime history and while much is available online - there’s nothing quite like a morning of digging into boxes of old documents!

Last year, St. John's #YYT didn't see a temperature as warm as today's 17.6Β°C until May 21.

Two months earlier this year. #nlwx

My grandparents were newlyweds when they first came to Gander. This was where they lived before the new β€˜Gander’ was born ….

Ha yes. And I still struggle to tell the difference between a Halifax and Lancaster. Shhhh… I’m working on it! Until Nanton (Canadian Bomber command Museum) gets their Halifax complete and next to their Lancaster for me to see them side by side - I figure it will remain a challenge. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I’ve already bombarded Jane and James, on separate things, with my grandfathers story πŸ˜‚.

I am always astonished at how some folks can glance at an old photo of an aircraft and see tiny features that I don’t even notice and then fill in all sorts of info! The knowledge out there is amazing!

Can anyone provide any info (no matter how sparse it may be) on this aircraft? Writing on the back says he is in a Halifax …. Tiny photo so apologies for quality.

New platform so I’m posting a few wartime photos. You never know when someone might recognize someone.

My Grandfather is in each other them and I’m guessing the year span is from 1943-1946. He was RAF and served in Bomber Command as a wireless operator. Followed by Transport command in 1945-1946.

Donald J. Trump post on TruthSocial: Justin Trudeau, of Canada, called me to ask what could be done about Tariffs. I told him that many people have died from Fentanyl that came through the Borders of Canada and Mexico, and nothing has convinced me that it has stopped. He said that it's gotten better, but I said, "That's not good enough." The call ended in a
"somewhat" friendly manner! He was unable to tell me when the Canadian Election is taking place, which made me curious, like, what's going on here? I then realized he is trying to use this issue to stay in power. Good luck Justin!

For my U.S. followers, our Canadian federal election must be held by this fall, but it can be held sooner. Our outgoing Prime Minister is still head of govt until a new Liberal Party leader is chosen on March 9th. It’s not up to Trudeau to decide when an election will take place. #cdnpoli #uspoli

I found these amazing Canadian made cookies at Coop in Calgary. There are a number of products under the Purity label. Made in St. John's, NF. Oddly they were not in the cookie aisle but instead with International.

Followed by a photo of a package of Purity Ginger Snaps

My favourite thing about this facebook group is watching so many people across Canada β€œdiscover” Purity products. So funny to read as a Newfoundlander who was raised on Purity syrups, crackers, cookies, and peanut butter kisses.

Further to that - or alongside it… with the guidelines for what qualified as a β€œtour” changing on occasion- were there instances where a crew member believed they should be screened or completed a tour of duty? Miscounts of flights that qualified etc? And who actually made that final call?

Curious if someone in Bomber Command had an issue with their superior (whether it be the pilot they flew with often, or their WC) - what was the process for any complaints to be made? Was there anything they could do if they believed they were wronged?
