He made a lot of sculptures back in the 70s, including some really interesting electromechanical ones. The sculptures were mostly given away over the decades, but I found some big photo albums which document everything he made. I'll have to post some of those here when I have them.

He died a bit over a year ago. There's a joy in going back through his things and discovering drawings which I've never seen before as well as ones which I remember clearly from my childhood, but it also makes me very sad. I wish I had been able to talk to him more about his art.

I need to go back to my parents' flat next week to collect some of his things, including the rest of his works, and take them back to my place. There's a lot of them! I'd like to scan or photograph everything and update the website with a bigger selection.

Hmm, yeah, something to do with how it responds to pressure? But I know that feeling of "slight change in the workspace completely messes up all drawings", that's definitely a real thing!

Could you try swapping the two Cintiqs to see if it's the hardware that's different? Also I found a good way to check a tablet for weirdness is to draw a diagonal line with a physical ruler and see if it comes out wavy.

Yeah, and I've found I fall into the same trap myself even though I'm well aware of it! It's just very difficult for people to be detached about something they're really invested in.

As much as I love the series, I always think that whenever the Souls games are mentioned, everyone immediately snaps onto exactly how those games work instead of thinking of the bigger picture!

Although on reflection, I think it's probably poor use of my time at this point in the project and I should do a really simple version for starters. For example, literally just dump all the materials on the desk and call it the artwork.

This weekend's bit of #gamedev: I took photos of my hands and hastily traced them in Aseprite. The idea is that they'll be Night in the Woods-style grabby hands for assembling the artwork in my art student game.

Yeah, that's a fair point! You could instead sync your stuff to any remote server which can run rsync, and a lot of online services do that out of the box. The main reason I like it is just that it only copies the most minimal set of data, so it's very fast.

If you're happy with command line tools and writing some scripts, rsync is pretty good and very flexible. I mainly use it for fast updates to a duplicate on an external drive (which I then remove and put in a fire box). You could sync to additional disks/folders to keep older backups around.

I think the Godot project updater has actually decayed slightly since 4.0 was released. It created TileMaps instead of TileMapLayers, and also completely lost the content of my tilemaps. I had to make them again from scratch!

Well, a bit of gamedev is happening today, at least. First time in about six months, I think. I added a basic inventory to the game and also ported it from Godot 3.5 to 4.3. Here's a picture of the main map linkage in the 4.3 editor.

I should also get back to working on my games. It's been a rough year and I haven't had a lot of space in my head to do complicated things like that. I'm taking the next couple of weeks off, though, so hopefully I'll be able to reset my brain and focus a bit!

I had that problem with my old SteelSeries keyboard due to the mechanical switches being oversensitive. It got worse over time. I ended up using an AutoHotkey script to debounce all the keys until I eventually got a new keyboard!
