Unless you have a minimum viable product, don't announce your product. You "planning" to do something means precisely nothing, and attempting to co-opt other projects for your vaporware earns you even less friends.

I love wave function collapse for procedural generation. I don't have much of a use case beyond map-making, though.

There's something about spinning up a new computer, setting up a bunch of encryption, then realizing you don't communicate with people enough to need GPG keys.

Exactly! Not just "Show don't tell," but also "there's a time and a place for everything." A good story is digested over time.

Game devs: stop front-loading your games. When a new player spends half an hour in cutscenes at the start of a game, it doesn't get them invested; quite the opposite. They want to play the game; the player doesn't care about your world they way you do. You need to get them hooked, *then* explain.

Learning gosub was such a game changer for me, but nothing wrong with using what works.

Rookie again. IANAL, but if someone you're dating breaks into a home to get evidence to secure a warrant, it's trivial to call that malfeasance, fruit of the poisonous tree, or parallel construction.

But it's nowhere as bad as the 2nd season of Lincoln Lawyer.

At least a quarter of my apps are from fDroid and I just had to side-load a depreciated app that's been pulled from the store, one that cost me $30, and Google tried their best to keep me from using it.

So next phone I get depends on custom ROM support. Google's flavor of Android is dying.

Expecting accuracy from any show is a recipe for pain, but of all the nonsense in The Rookie, I think police calling a death is the most bothersome to me. Seriously, 99% of the time, that's only for doctors.

Look, I'm a verbose dude, but only when I'm lazy. Writing short, punchy messages takes a lot longer than vomiting all over the keyboard.

It's the time to do it, but I've found some things just don't survive prototyping stages. I dumped an entire MVP because it just wasn't fun. That being said, you've got enough experience to make a solid GDD rather than let it get that far.

Nothing like deciding that an entire design pillar or game mechanic just isn't fun and dropping entire sections of the game. The competing concepts of "getting something on paper" and "the beginning is a delicate time."

But once it reaches critical mass and writes itself? Beauty.
