I was really hoping someone would say Chow....was a popular "automobile dog"

Can someone who knows more about dogs than me confirm what breed the dog in this picture is? Looks a bit Shiba-y but not sure (I think this is New York City in 1916, as featured in Vanity Fair.

Historians: this is a worrying development. Historians use the Hansard to analyze what was said in parliamentary discussions. If the Hansard is subject to editing out things that are politically unacceptable at the time, we (and future historians) have a problem.

There is currently an exhibition of my research in the Robert Frost Library at Amherst College which showcases some key findings from their archive of Indigenous literature. I was attempting to tell a short history of Indigenous automobility in literature using just four items:
