Regarding tech in schools (elementary to high school), let’s listen to teachers instead of tech companies. Teachers know what our children need.

I was listening to the podcast The Daily last week about how tech companies convinced children (and parents and teachers) that coding was the ticket to success and it turned out not to be (for some). Now tech companies say AI needs to be implemented in schools.

Flying to Mexico City tomorrow morning. I will be giving a talk on Tuesday. It is about AI. I’ve worked in what we now call AI before it was cool.
I don’t have the answers but I hope I can help people identify how to ask useful questions.

Example: every time you listen to the opinion of a so-called expert ask yourself “what are they selling?” Because usually they will benefit from spreading a particular point of view.

I’m preparing a talk I’ll give in Mexico City in a few days. Instead of offering answers about AI to my audience, I want to leave them with some questions.

Apple AI version of my daughter

My daughter is so busy at the moment: last year of high school, a part time job, getting ready for the national soccer tournament (her team is BC’s champion for he category), deciding what to study and which universities she will soon apply to. I am helping her identify how to manage her time.

I landed in Canada for the first time 29 years ago. Did a master’s degree at McMaster and then moved back to Mexico. I returned to do a PhD (UBC). Met my wife during this time. I finished my degree and moved back home. Finally, my wife and I decided that we missed Canada and moved back in 2009.

I’ve been watching a YouTube channel called “West of Neverland” that is about Disney animation. The author compares Goofy to Kramer and I realized that, if Goofy is Kramer, then George is Donald, Jerry is Mickey and Elaine is Minnie.
