Things warmed up a bit, so I decided to go hiking as originally planned - just late in the morning for conventional landscape photography.

But I took pictures, anyway. And a hike through New England woods always refreshes my soul. It was a great way to wrap up the week. #Hiking

It's been an interesting week, temperature wise. I don't recall NH being so warm in autumn when I was a kid.

There's a place in Enfield, NH that I haven't visited before, called Halfmile Pond that sounds like an enjoyable hike. I've visited nearby Smith Pond a couple of years back.

It's like they've forgotten how he ended the war on Ukraine in 24 hours. Sad!

It's my last full day in New England, and I was considering a photo hike to a remote pond this morning. In view of the fact that it's only 30℉ / 1℃ outside, I'm rethinking that plan. I packed for cool weather, not freezing. 🥶

Today I got to go inside my first cold storage cemetery chamber! The door was wide open, so it was now or never. This is the Center of Town Cemetery in Hartland. I don't know if it's still used these days when graves aren't dug by hand.

Stop sign and a street sign where two rural New Hampshire roads meet. From the camera's vantage point, standing on the Whitaker Road, straight ahead is a small grassy knoll area where the Penniman School used to stand many years ago. There are no historical markers here, so unless you know what to look for, it doesn't look like much of anything. I suspect most locals are unaware of its history.

In 2006, I learned that this tiny roadside knoll, a couple miles from where I grew up, was the site of an old schoolhouse ー the very one my grandfather attended ~1920.

The building was later sold, and moved 3 miles away where it's still in use as a home addition. #History #MeridenNH

I started to explain that I'm on vacation, and like to take photos of everyday life around the area where I grew up, but I didn't feel like justifying a totally innocuous activity.

A paranoid store owner stopped me from taking a picture of my cup of New England coffee in front of the machine. He had noticed me taking photos of antique tractors across the road, and was sure I was up to unspeakable evil.

I've been in that store many times. Not anymore.

I hiked out to see a loon nest today. I didn't see any loons, but I did see this cute little rodent along the trail. There are chipmunks in Tennessee, but they're more common up this way for some reason. #chipmunk #NewHampshire
