First doors are being installed in the studio now. Starting to look like a real building.
01.03.2025 17:05 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Quick studio update... This is the size of the building now it has all the construction elements complete. We are moving to the interior now, and focusing on acoustic properties and room tunings to start with.
01.03.2025 15:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Adelaide, the city I was born in & lived until I was 25 yrs old, had me cross paths with the great Ben Folds in the late 90s. 25 years later, he returned to play at the Thebarton Theater with South Australia symphony orchestra - in which I was in the junior symphony as a kid violinist. Small world.
26.02.2025 20:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In 1995, I went to Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd, Hollywood to buy a guitar. Didn't realize they were doing a presentation for Brian Setzer (Stray Cats) on their "Walk of Fame". As I was leaving the parking lot I almost drove over Brian. Thank god I didn't hit him. But now this...
15.02.2025 19:46 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Back from a road trip to Palm Springs to see my friend Alvin Taylor, the legendary drummer for Little Richard, George Harrison, Bob Welch, Eric Burdon and countless others. Alvin cherry picked cymbals for our house kit, and they are all on the truck to San Miguel next week.

I don't blame you. If I were in your position I would have done the same.

13.02.2025 01:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Musicians have always led the charge to revolt against what they knew threatened the human experience. Woody Guthrie famously penned the song "Old Man Trump", to fight against slumlord tactics of Fred Trump, father of Donald Trump.

This is our reverb room and this is special. In my entire working life in studios, the only studio I ever worked in that had one was Capitol Records basement studio. But that is temp closed for earthquake work. Today most use digital reverbs but this is a unique part of our studio in Mexico.
07.02.2025 15:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1The one thing that is under-appreciated in studios is working in a fluid manner with the client. There is a real art in doing punch-ins for engineers, and the way of Pro Tools or DAWs for this is not fluid. Tape machines (and digital recorders like mine) work in a much more "musical" way.
06.02.2025 18:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0About 20 years ago, I got this 24 track hard disk recorder which is incredible. Today I was successfully able to hack it to use solid state storage, adding decades to its usable life expectancy.

To summarize, Atmos is a solution looking for a problem. It has great support for the distributors, but lacks support for creators who can't earn from it, and consumers who are not wanting it. Supporting the troll on the bridge isn't a viable business model IMHO.
03.02.2025 18:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I don't ultimately think that Atmos is dead. I think it is an amazing technology, but it comes down to consumer take up. No one is rushing out to buy sound systems for it. Those audiophiles are still buying physical media and hifi systems. Without consumer demand pulling, it won't work.
03.02.2025 18:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Streaming only supports the media companies, labels, etc. that have the budget. It creates a disparity between the music creators and the music distributors. It also alienates the listening audience, doesn't support physical media and is very "Apple centric". I'm not sure this is a good ecosystem.
