I wish I could stop using Instagram, Facebook and Whatsapp but when it comes to groups and events management and hosting even those highly critical of Meta are extremely resistant to moving to other platforms. Every time I mention discord, signal, etc I face major opposition to using them.

I just deactivated my tiktok account. I want to save videos I made before completely deleting. I pretty much stopped using it after the 12 hour shutdown. Now the AI slop is quickly increasing it's not as bad as Instagram but it's getting there.

Tropical fruit update: This morning breakfast included a tamarillo. It's like a mix of tomato and passion fruit. A really tart tomato. There was only one so after tasting I added it to some cottage cheese and now I'm sad because it was really good.

I only have 6 days left before I am officially unemployed and I just had to inform a team that sent me a detailed request for help that I can't actually help them 😔. I still gave a little advice because even if I'm gone accessibility is still important.

It hasn't been a very easy summer or fall for me so though money can't buy happiness. It can buy tropical fruit.

I went down a rabbit hole watching tropical fruit influencers on social media. So I overnighted a bunch of fruit from Florida. I've had my first hidden rose apple, caviar line and golden berries. I have more in the fridge and ripening on the counter. I can't tell you how happy I am right now.

True and the profit isn't sustainable. Investors always want more and many of these companies are in stasis when it comes to developing anything truly innovative that would make those profits skyrocket.

They did overhired but unlike others it didn't affect their profits. But in a lot of the interviews around this layoff they have in so many words admitted they have a bloat of middle management. Something I have constantly heard from people that worked there.

I'm pissed because we're currently in a period where there is very little innovation happening in tech. Many of the things marketed as 'new' and 'innovative' are just repacking of one of the big LLM models.

Tech companies overhired in 2020/2021. The last two years have been a course correction. If this was about AI then they would actually invest in AI technology that isn't LLMs and Gen AI. There's no real R&D from most tech companies beyond acquiring up startups that do it and grinding them into dust

This is 14,000 out of the 30,000 planned. Will AI replace everyone laid off? Absolutely not. You know what's missing from the reporting when AI is given as reason for layoffs? Actual proof/examples of an AI agents or tools doing the work from start to finish of a person that isn't middle management.

Listen I got the dev server to run without errors and I can see my hello world home page so I'll call that a win. I'm not doing anything too fancy with the app so it's encouraging.

It's a pretty Colorado autumn Saturday afternoon. I'm in living room trying not to cry as I fight my way through NextJS trying to build the app that my Improv group is using during two shows next month.

I'm really trying to make money to turn this layoff into early retirement.
