I had a great time talking to @mozziebites.bsky.social at this years Mosquitoes Control Association and Arboviruses Research symposium in Torquay in Australia this week!

I will share a bit more of our chat and of my time at the conference in the coming days!

It's #WorldMosquitoDayβ€”and Day 3 of Entomology Advocacy Week! Today entomologists are urging Congress to reauthorize the Kay Hagan Tick Act to address vector-borne diseases carried by ticks & other blood-feeding vectors like mosquitoes.

Loving @mozzienique.bsky.social's talk at the World Mosquito Day Seminar on using In2Care bait stations to attract mosquitoes to larvicides that they then deliver to their breeding sites - very clever :)

While others see a lovely green laneway in Grosetto, I worry about mosquito breeding sites!

While I was happy that most pots drain freely without trapping water, one pot used with a tray did have larvae!

Different continent, same message: avoid standing water to reduce mosquito breeding sites!

3 reasons why the release of GM mosquitoes in Queensland is risky We do need to control disease-carrying mosquitoes in Australia, but a University of Melbourne experts says more research is needed on GM strains before their proposed release in Queensland

Frustrating to see such blatant plagiarism by an article in a Wiley journal. See if you can spot the difference. No action has been taken by the journal.

Make sure drains aren’t growing any plants in them which can cause water to back up (like in this one). Same for gutters and water tanks. As temperatures get warmer, you want to make sure your property breeds as litttle mozzies as possible

Breeding sites like this can be hard to identify as a resident but can make such an impact if you can eliminate breeding grounds at your property.
