Loving @mozzienique.bsky.social's talk at the World Mosquito Day Seminar on using In2Care bait stations to attract mosquitoes to larvicides that they then deliver to their breeding sites - very clever :)

While others see a lovely green laneway in Grosetto, I worry about mosquito breeding sites!
While I was happy that most pots drain freely without trapping water, one pot used with a tray did have larvae!
Different continent, same message: avoid standing water to reduce mosquito breeding sites!

Although most plant pots in Grosetto are allowed to drain freely, those that don't often contain mosquito larvae! @mozzienique.bsky.social is on the case

Frustrating to see such blatant plagiarism by an article in a Wiley journal. See if you can spot the difference. No action has been taken by the journal.

Scientists worried about CSIRO-backed plan to release genetically modified mosquitos in Queensland
One mosquito expert says releasing a foreign mosquito strain into wild could increase risk of insecticide resistance
I had a chat to the Guardian about my concerns with releasing genetically modified (GM) mosquitoes in Australia.

While I am not opposed to the technology there are unique risks with the planned releases here (thread).

Evolutionary consequences of long-distance dispersal in mosquitoes
Long-distance dispersal (LDD) provides a means for mosquitoes to invade new regions and spread adaptive alleles, including those conferring insecticidβ¦
NEW REVIEW PAPER
Mosquito dispersal occurs across a huge range of spatial scales, from within a single building to all the way across the world. Why does this matter? How do we investigate this? And why should we treat active and passive movement separately?

13.12.2024 02:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Make sure drains arenβt growing any plants in them which can cause water to back up (like in this one). Same for gutters and water tanks. As temperatures get warmer, you want to make sure your property breeds as litttle mozzies as possible

Breeding sites like this can be hard to identify as a resident but can make such an impact if you can eliminate breeding grounds at your property.
