We very selfishly have quite an important home football game that day, but I will let you know how my post match pans out, as this sounds wonderful

04.02.2026 17:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I've got used to all (suburban) beer prices beginning with a Β£4.... when it moves to the Β£5... it is an extra shock.
But Β£3.60 sounds marvellous
Obviously no shade on the pub etc... I've just got on with it before now amd never felt shocked.
This was a shock
Β£5 for a pint of Millstone in the Tameside area. FIVE whole pounds.
I think this was the moment that, even I, said "... that actually is a lot of money for a pint."

It is a shame that it sounds brilliant and like something I'd hate now. Such a shame

(And yes each to their own and bla bla because social media)
21.01.2026 17:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hanley Town wasn't enough to get me blogging again, but was enough to get me writing something down.
Gentle reminder that it's alright on Insta. Something different, rather than the forced attempt to recapture what we lost (which is what here feels like.)

Telling people the origin of Blue Monday is the January version of telling people the origin of Stop the Cavalry in December.
19.01.2026 15:31 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Two keg N/A beers on in the pub. Both more expensive than pints of normal cask beer.
I'm sure this point has been made a million times before, and is boring to some, but that market will never appeal to those that have need of it at that price.
(And yes I understand why the price bla bla SSSHHHH)
A Golden pint of Red Willow Weightless on a wooden pub table
Was originally posting "first pint since Saturday," and then realised that it is only Tuesday.
It must have been a long work week already

Back to work today, but yesterday was magical so I have that to hold on to.
Oh, and Happy New Year! I have no resolutions other than being a bit happier to be alive. And maybe going to one or two beer events again.
Finishing my listen to this episode with a beer that the guys kindly gifted me for my appearance 4 years ago, that was still knocking about.
Wondered if I'd get a mention this year - it took 29 minutes.
Horrified that Christmas Tree Farm isn't considered a modern classic.
Such a great listen

23.12.2025 19:59 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Oh and thanks to an error at the till, that the staff member lovingly didnβt want to fix, I jist bought my turkey for Β£8.
23.12.2025 08:48 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Two hours of work left. Then it's a pub crawl for the rest of the day. All the presents have arrived. And I have the Raggy Dolls theme tune stuck in my head. Merry Christmas all!
Look who's in the reject bin! It's the...
With any luck I will be after this

On cask.
"Make sense of that. Where on earth are we now?"
If people stopped writing articles about how "craft" beer is dead, then maybe they'd take a second to recognise that there are plenty who still get a lot of enjoyment from it
18.12.2025 17:52 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It has been a while since a packaged beer has made me smile this much. In fact I've had very few this calendar year to compare. But most of this was gone before I thought that I should take a picture.
I imagine this would have been everywhere back in the Tw*****r days. Very very good.
I should take up writing again.

One of the most difficult phone calls that I've ever had to make, referenced in one of the loveliest posts I've ever read.
It may be 7 years on, but thank you @marknjohnson.bsky.social
Finally sat down and read this article. The sort of crossover of personal beer writing and interesting journalism that I subscribe to Pellicle, or any paid writing, for. Nailed.
04.12.2025 17:39 β π 13 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0It was on the list for tonight, but was so packed that people couldn't even get by on the narrow lane out front. So had to swerve sadly. I keep forgetting that it is a Friday.
28.11.2025 21:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Think they are a little too far out on limited time, but you never know!
28.11.2025 18:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Are you suggesting I am neither weird nor wacky?
28.11.2025 18:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm sure I just got unlucky.
On way back to Exeter for the evening if you have any recommendations
I went to their pub before this, and was served a similar flat beer. And it didn't taste great either sadly
