Last year, we had a school assignment to create our own font. I tried making a decorative steampunk serif font, taking inspiration from clock hands and old Victorian newspapers.
My dyslexic friends have said it was near impossible to read. So I want to try to fix that.
Hey gang!! Back with my quarterly βcommissions are open!β post. The occassion? Unemployment π

Stuffed Dragon with Dummy 13 figure kneeling and holding it.
Work in progress drawing of a woman hugging a dragon.
WIP of a drawing I felt compelled to do.
Long story short, I felt like God said to prepare a Christmas gift for someone who isn't here yet. And I draw things for people 90% of the time. So we're doing a little drawing for that.
I'm praying this doesn't result in me being let down...
Me too, Pooh. Me too.

I'm even scared to joke about it here with limited interactions π

Lucky Leaf tea boxes. One Coconut Lemongrass, one Hibiscus spice, one a Sampler of both flavors.
Lucky Leaf boxes showing all sides of the design
In stark contrast to my last post... this assignment's struggle was "how the crap do I make this Not Like Other Girls β’οΈ of tea look like tea?"
Because the assignment debrief said they didn't want calming imagery, they wanted to show excitement in the taste buds and make people hyped for tea!

Throwback to college when my biggest stressor was trying to ensure this did NOT look like tea. Because (I still want to ask my instructor about this) who boxes jam/jelly/marmalade? Legitimate question!

Wang Lei.
I'm torn on whether to just make his bangs cover his eyes like some 90's cartoon bully, but idk....
Struggled to make his one eye work and kinda gave up... π€«
And those are the pastel goth boys of the Alt+Clique

Malik
Don't ask me why he's clearly leaning on something when there's nothing to lean on. I drew the boys, nothing more.

Darius!
I spent waaaay too long trying to figure out his facial hair...

Enzo! If I draw these guys again, I'm gonna regret giving him tattoos... but he looked too... basic without them...

And next up, Regulus!
He looks way too much like a friend of mine. And like... not in a way that my friend would be flattered. But I can't unsee it... Regulus is kinda ruined for me π

The Alt+Clique is back, with the Pastel Goth boys!
Starting with (probably my favorite) Ryan!
Caucasian Girl in pastel goth fashion jumping and fist pumping, drawn by Nicole Durell.
And last but definitely not least for the pastel girlies, it's Sabrina.
She was 100% the first idea I had, so she holds a special place in my heart.

Jahazara! She's a close second for my favorite. I kiiiinda like her old look better when it was more traditionally chibi, but still cute!

Don't ask me why I made a neko girl... idk either.

And Cea Hying!
She is so my favorite. She's got such a cute face. And the most drastic change from the original traditional chibi style to more my style.

And then Zarita.
I originally drew her with a curly hair brush. I kinda miss how good that made it look, but at the same time, it wasn't fitting my style. So we keep trying.

Weird idea I had once. Chibi goth characters for stickers and stuff. The Alt+Clique, as I call them. I wanted to make cute characters in different subgenres of goth fashion, but school was hellish, so that got put on the back burner. But I still like the ideas.
Starting with pastel goth: Adalinda!
Mockup of a fake Rolling Stone magazine with Jin on the cover and an ad for Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl on the back cover.
An intro spread for a fake Rolling Stone Article about Jin from BTS.
Throwback to when I made a fake Rolling Stone spread for Jin's return from the military for an editorial assignment.
Trying to remember if this was the first time I had to use glaze for the front cover, and it's hard to see in the light, but in real life, the BTS logo shines behind Jin.
Thank you for coming to my Bluesky debut Ted Talk about a freaking dragon plushie that hasn't even arrived yet, and I somehow still had time to practice working in Affinity and create all this nonsense/lore for him.
And thank you again, Roamin' Bison Workshop for the boy I will receive soon.
Now, since this was a personal project, I am not making money, and I am not doing this for any reason beyond needing a (relatively) quick creative project, I decided to take the promotional pictures from the BackerKit to use as the photographic styles. Also, so I could shout them out in the project.
11.07.2025 00:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Brand fonts and colours, very important to the company to make sure everything is recognizable and consistent while not letting them think the entire RGB spectrum is their brand identity.
11.07.2025 00:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ah yes, the page of catharsis! You remind people tp not bastardize their look and integrity while also getting to break every rule you were ever taught, which after a long project, is pretty amazing!
11.07.2025 00:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I have these pages because when I try to help people out with simple favour tasks, and all they have are crunchy JPEGs for me, my soul hurts. So I take the time to educate them on what files should be used for.
While also reminding people that white space/negative space is very much encouraged!
Logos, logos, logos... Gotta love them. I only have to export like 100 files to ensure I give them everything they need. And then I get to spend an hour sorting it for them.
But honestly, when I make a logo that I like, it's INSANELY satisfying!
Brand voice and key messaging are pretty dang important, at least for me, because I need to know how to communicate what brands want to say both in narrative and in visuals.
But like, Chanel would not speak to their customers like McDonald's does, and I think people sometimes forget that.
