We don't take our fair share of asylum seekers compared to our neighbours with equivalent populations and economies.
We don't need to deter anybody with draconian measures. We need to act like grown ups instead.

Dealing with asylum claims is a matter of international law, so there'll always be a responsibility to deal with them.
Dealing with them in an efficient, humane manner is less costly than coming up with malicious deterrents, while housing them in hotels and joining in with the demonisation
Rejected and deported once they've arrived for not having a legitimate reason to stay?
Sure, some might slip the net but you can utilise the existing law much quicker when you aren't fighting a backlog brought on by successive governments negligence.
Maybe, but a) you'd be talking about vastly reduced numbers, which would have an impact on the availability of boats in the first place (smugglers only operate them because they make money, reduced numbers = reduced profit), and b) would someone risk the journey knowing that they're likely to be

Deliver the safe routes and there very likely won't be a need for a draconian small boat policy. Who is realistically going to attempt a crossing in a dinghy when they can just apply in Europe and get a van or plane over knowing their status before they ever enter the country?
As awful as they are, they aren't worse than Johnson, or Truss, or Sunak.
They're just more disappointing because we expected better.
Ask a RW voter individually and they'll tell you they support things like free healthcare and workers.rights, yet go to the pills and bite for parties opposed to them. It's a weird phenomena.

17.11.2025 11:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We need a press that is free to report on anything to hold power to account but that needs to come with a responsibility to be truthful at all times.
The publishing of outright lies under the banner of 'free speech' is doing untold damage
This. It's one thing for a member of the government to say "I want to improve standards in education" and to get outside help from experts in the field to formulate policy.
It's quite another to just give a contractor the keys to the kingdom and say "off you go, have fun"
I read it as Saton and thought, you know what, the AI might be into something

Oh wait, you mean you're just one of those utter Muppets who likes to call everything they don't like "woke".
Do grow up, for everyone's sake.
Sure. We can do that now too. And probably should!

As always, if your goal is to protect women, focus on the men who commit the crimes instead of demonising a tiny minority group
Trying to justify exclusion of trans women is at best misguided, at worst, outright lying.
Now, there may well have been individuals that have identified as trans women and committed crimes, but they are individuals, not representative of trans women as a group, and excluding trans women would
You don't want "safe spaces for women"
You want "spaces for women that don't involve trans women"
At least be honest about your bigotry.
We have many years of historic evidence that proves trans women as a group are not a threat to cis women, so banging the "safe spaces for women" drum while
You aren't "confronting reality" though, are you? You're being a dick.
Bye.
As much as anyone can say they do. I don't block on political affiliation, I block on the basis of how someone decides to interact.
And your comment here is definitely a tick towards "picking a fight." It certainly isn't offering anything of value.
I don't necessarily exclude people who subscribe to any political identity, but if they're just trying to pick fights, abuse people, or outright deny reality with nonsense then into the bin they go.

07.10.2025 16:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Every time someone says we should leave the ECHR we should ask them why they want to destroy Churchill's legacy.
He was a very flawed man but the ECHR that he was a huge supporter of was his crowning achievement.
So those who want to leave it must hate Churchill.
I suspect their brains might pop

02.10.2025 16:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yep. The reason there are so many "fighting age men" seeking refuge is because that's the demographic group most at risk in their home countries
But of course, racists can't get mileage out of the truth, so they spread fear and hate instead.
Everyone opposed to Farage needs to go full Gavin Newsom's Press Office

If you don't want to be seen as racist, the answer is simple: don't do or say racist things.
A lesson Farage and his ilk really need to learn.
One of their posts from 10.mo.ths ago was about how bluesky is boring.
I strongly suspect that's because people just block their idiocy rather than arguing with them.
Like I just did!
I do try. I'm no expert, but it always seems to me that no good can come of treating any large group of people as one homogenous blob.
