Speculating somewhat, Marx may have come to think that "Argus" was the better comparison than "Cyclopes", because it better captures the unfair demand that the railway workers to have their eyes on everything

Even stranger is that in the French, Marx changed it to "Argus" i.e. a hundred-eyed giant rather than a one-eyed giant

As an aside I'm not quite sure why its translated as "Titans" when in German Marx used "Cyclopes"

Google’s AI Is Destroying Search, the Internet, and Your Brain Google’s AI Overview, which is easy to fool into stating nonsense as fact, is stopping people from finding and supporting small businesses and credible sources.

1/Google’s AI Overviews are doing exactly what publishers feared. @pewresearch.org found that when people see one, they almost never click through – just 1% do.

@404media.co dug into what that actually looks like in practice. It’s bad.

Watching Russo play Italy reminds me of the story that when Jean-Jacques Rousseau was baptised Catholic in Turin it was as Giovanni-Giacomo Russo

β€œKarl Marx in America is about as comprehensive a history of its subject as one could want. It is a book many of us had long hoped would one day arrive, and now it is here and the hopes are vindicated.”

I suspect these explanations are spin. They ran a story framed as β€œMamdani faked being black” because they thought that was the story and it would be a huge scandal that would cripple him. Of course most of the senior editors agreedβ€”being anti-progressive is clearly a credential internally there.

Reminds me of when Appiah argued you were not "obligated to report" a Green-Card Marriage but "it would be a good thing if you did", and then blocked @crookedfootball.bsky.social and me for criticizing him about it on Twitter

Marx's Republican Communism – Spectre Journal SΓΈren Mau argues that Bruno Leipold's masterful contextualization of Marx in republicanism tradition could be enriched by an engagement with the labor theory of value.

Post to the subreddit r/AskHistorians:

What was navigation like for vehicle drivers in the United States before the internet and
GPS?

Before GPS devices and smartphones/cellular internet networks were a thing (Garmin company was founded 1989), millions of Americans were already getting around driving without the use of those inventions. How did they navigate? Did everyone need stacks of maps? Were drivers frequently lost? Did everyone have to understand the interstate system and use intuition to guide them? How burdensome was driving before GPS? Did drivers pay people to calculate an optimal route for them?
