If third party DLC for games count, I've heard of (but not tried!) two flight simulator addons that purport to use AI to provide air traffic control: one explicitly claims to use an LLM (BeyondATC) and the other (SayIntentions.AI) just vaguely gestures at "advanced AI" (their words not mine).

Oh gosh, it's nowhere near as polished (and I had a friend help for the background art), but this is a clip of when I was testing it!

It's really more of a little code doodle than anything -- I just ported an RK4 integrator that I already had from a university problem set from Python to C#.

I stayed up way too late watching the most recent episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds ("A Space Adventure Hour"), but the only thing I regret is not watching it sooner! It was such a delightful episode!

I guess it came full circle with the episode of Voyager where the ship got taken over and the crew was forced into holodecks to involuntarily LARP as members of the French Resistance. :P

I saw that sign last month! I think one of the questions the sign poses (well... posed) was quite relevant: "What do omissions in the historic narrative reveal about our society?"

(I had also found some other sources on random blogs and websites, but not all of them had references -- and on the ones that did, I wasn't able to directly track those references down, so I wasn't certain how authoritative they were. 😅)

Thanks for sharing that story in the first place! I hadn't heard it before and it was delightful learning a bit more aviation history. :)

The chart legends aren't comprehensive -- what are we supposed to do if we see something on a chart that isn't in the legend? Just hope to find someone who knows? Email the FAA? Guess?

The most recent Doctor Who episode (series 15 episode 2 "Lux") was the perfect kind of silly! I unironically kinda loved the gag leading into the third act. :P

The pattern on the banner is irrelevant to the story, but along the banner's edge is a series of repeated shapes that are rather reminiscent of Among Us crewmates.

There's even Among Us shaped patterns on banners on the promenade!

I feel like I'd expect a $ at the end of that METAR. :P

(I also currently have an IKEA Vindstyrka, but its PM2.5 scale doesn't have units, and it only has VOC trend information -- the price is certainly more palatable though!)

Ah, neat, thanks for the suggestions! I actually already have an Aranet4 for CO2; I've heard of the Airthings and Awair devices for PM2.5 and VOC, but I wasn't sure between them.

I saw that on AirNow and PurpleAir too! If you don't mind a question: what do you use to measure indoor air quality? Do you have any recommendations?

Hooray for MyShake! Didn't feel shaking where I was in the Bay Area (earthquake was in Humboldt County), but glad I got an early warning!

I was reading the NWS Bay Area forecast discussion earlier today, and they mentioned that "if the [Ocean Prediction Center] forecast of a minimum pressure of 943 mb later today verifies, it would challenge the lowest pressure on record in the northeastern Pacific" (the record was 942.5 mb in 2021)!

I think it depends what feed your followers are using? With the default Following feed, I think what you described is correct, but other feeds (e.g. Popular With Friends) can include stuff based on likes too.

I tend to mostly look at Following, but sometimes I'll look at other feeds as well!
