I finished Ancillary Justice and really liked it. It’s more action/space opera-y than I typically like but has such a unique and excellent protagonist. This is the third Ann Leckie book I’ve read and I didn’t like the first two, but glad I gave just one more try.

I watched Mother of Flies and I liked it best out of their films

I just watched Incantation yesterday on this recommendation and it was great, very satisfying, and very clever little techniques breaking the 4th wall

I finished it and thought it was great. Particularly like the scene where they have you stare at the incantation and translate it at the centre and then suddenly flash to white so the afterimage stays with you, don’t think I’ve seen a film use that visual trick before

I got about 30m in and decided it was really good and needed to watch it with a working brain

After killing scores of plants during the pandemic, last spring I trued again with just a single basil plant. Instead if trying to keep her alive I neglect her until I think it’s going to die and then drown it. Here’s yesterday/ today. She’s so dramatic. Lost like two leaves.

I mainly read books digitally on my phone, so alternatively I am so expert at doomscrolling I can ‘doomscroll’ a 400+ page book without blinking.

Sometimes I worry that I have lost my love of reading or that my attention span is broken from social media and electronic devices, and then I finally pick up a book and read it start to finish in under 24 hours and remember that I don’t read because I have stuff I need to get done.

I decided to draw strawberries with my new coloured pencils and halfway through looked up a video tutorial on coloured pencils because I remembered there was some technique for smoothing (it’s solvents brushed on top) and part way through the 30m video turns out the example project was strawberries

I think they would replace people anyway and move jobs to cheaper countries and it just looks better to use the cover of genAI revolutionizing their business (remember when companies used to get major negative press for offshoring jobs?)

yeah I find I just change the subject with these because I don't want to nitpick details forever on whether it's useful to generate meeting notes, vs. people who want us to use genai to replace whole pipelines
