What does Vindolanda mean and how do you know that is what the Romans called this fort? Vindolanda means white lawns or white fields. We know that the Roman name for the fort was Vindolanda because of an altar set up by the civilians at Vindolanda to the god Vulcan which was found during...

Looks like it was daisies rather than vines that they were referring to

Got it, and to be fair I don't think I ever said to a teacher 'citation needed'. I hope you'll agree that it's a bit of a stretch to go from the mention in the Vindolanda tablets of wine (which could have come from anywhere in the Roman world), to surmising that they were growing grapes by the wall!

It was good to be part of the preparation of this from Green Alliance which sends some important messages about the UK's questionable resilience. It's also fitting that its launch coincides with today's warnings by the Met Office of weather records being set more frequently now in the UK.

Adapt to thrive: preparing the UK for climate change In this report, we show that the UK is underprepared for the impacts of climate change and outline a roadmap to an adapted and more resilient future.

πŸŒ‘οΈβ˜” New report | The UK isn't prepared for the impacts of climate change, and they're already here.

Nearly 3k deaths from excess heat in 2022. Β£2.4bn annual flooding costs. 6m homes at flood risk.

Yet 2/3 of #adaptation actions are inadequate for the scale of the challenge.
