When you're writing a war series with a sizeable ensemble cast it's inevitable that you're going to have to say goodbye to some of them along the way. And it doesn't ever get any easier!

This was early evening and the birds photo bombing are the swallows that play in front of my balcony every day and perch on my clothes lines.

It's the school holidays and I'm home alone with my 6 year-old... Nah, I didn't really want to work on my new book, honest!
