Tips for safe protesting and activism

Protest Safety First, make sure someone knows where you are. Prepare for the weather with rain gear, sunscreen, water, or a coat. Pay attention to your surroundings. If you feel unsafe, it’s OK to leave. Avoid posting photos to social media, especially if they show people’s faces.

Self Care Protests can be exhausting physically and emotionally. Don’t neglect your self-care needs. Enjoy activities that aren’t related to your activist work. Maintain boundaries - you don’t have to say “yes” to every protest. Find healthy outlets for stress, like exercise or journaling.

Other Ways to Help Call or write to your lawmakers, encouraging them to create gender-affirming policies. Educate others on the importance of gender-affirming care for youth. Check in with friends who have been affected by changes in trans youth healthcare. Share supportive resources.

Lots of protests are being organized around the state to bring attention to cuts made to gender-affirming care. If you choose to attend a protest, look through these tips to stay safe while making a difference.

The Q+ Foam Party in North Haven was SO fun!

Love and courage take center stage at Middletown Pride event PrideFEST drew thousands of people and over 130 vendors to downtown Middletown Saturday. It's the state's largest annual pride celebration.
