That's poor on such a busy street. We have a bus stop on a narrow pavement outside a shop. It serves both the half hourly S2 town service and several Local Link services .. There is no space for a conventional shelter but I wondered if the shop would accept a decent awning even if not a bench.

A bus shelter on Rochestown Avenue in Dublin. The footpath is narrow so the back of the bus shelter is right up against the stone boundary wall of a building and the roof juts out from there, The seating is also very narrow.

I thought there could be a bank of template designs to suit virtually all locations but was told each one has to be designed for its location. I was very impressed by this one on a narrow footpath on Rochestown Avenue

So in the Dublin LAs does the NTA contract out the work of installing bus shelters itself once it has PP? Here in Sligo afaik NTA funds the shelters but the LA contracts out the work. It does take forever between announcement of funding and erection of the shelters and we have a huge underspend

Of course, it's a following the letter of the (environmental) law approach

DCC has explained it's obliged to carry out the work in between the departure & return of the geese. The geese have environmental law on their side. Is there no law that can be invoked to protect the humans?

Generally all in favour of decisions based on research but ... The task seems to be to analyse news & SM outlets from a year before & a year after the drop in sales. Could our friends Chatgpt, Gemini or Claude not do that? Is that what the research team will use? @daveandersonie.bsky.social

"Last year, motorists in Cork told the Irish Examiner that issues holding back their transition to driving an EV included range anxiety, worries about dangers presented by the powerful batteries used in such vehicles, and a shortage of charging points around the country."

Not much of a disincentive there. must be frustrating for IFI. The Probation Act and minimal donations to Charity serve to play down the seriousness of environmental pollution despite all our fine words on the topic.

What happened to transit oriented development? Are there bus services or ones that can be extended? Are there plans for the cycle lanes?

The front page angle seems to have been because of the surprise element. Demolition may be justified for the greater good but you can hardly expect the owner not to be shocked if he got the news as he says. second hand Human interest stories often make the front page. Or it could be clever PR

Not sure what your point is, Not true he didn't know until he received texts from mates? If true it's no big deal, certainly not national news? I do see TII's point, if they had advance discussions some would hear before others and rumours would fly. But maybe a text that morning to alert him.

They do seem to have done what they could themselves to facilitate active, sustainable &shared mobility. It's a poor show neither bus connects, park & ride hubs or it appears cycling infrastructure have materialised in a city that had a Taoiseach and senor Government Ministers in situ for years

Yes, I use it I'm being aggresive and entitled. I don't, I'm sneaking up on someone and scaring them! It's simpler in Germany for example as they tend to favour directness

Yes and fear is more pronounced I imagine if a disability prevents you from taking quick evasive action. Ebikes tend to be heavy

I see @benwheels.bsky.social point. It seems crazy to fret more about a narrow cycle lane than a wide carriageway but VI people say they hear the noise of cars/buses/trucks whereas they fear people on bike suddenly appearing without warning. Wonder if it happens less where bells are more acceptable

Good idea but you've touched on something there Eddie Molloy wrote about in yesterday's IT about the lack of a horizontal / approach across the Civil Service. AT will be funded by DOT/NTA/TII but Urban Realm by either Dept of Housing or Dept Community & Rural Dev so integrated approach needed

Yes but with the current TT scheme community groups do things, plant, paint, weed, litter pick, commission murals etc. @hanneydp.bsky.social 's scheme and yours is a good one but it would see a different role for community groups. in fairness the TT has moved a long way from just "pretty"

I don't mind for a train documentary but it bothers me for a walking or cycling trip when someone ostensibly backpacking or cycle touring doesn't seem to be carrying as much as a lunch or rain-jacket πŸ˜€

Yes they had Hugh Dennis and David Baddiel doing the Two Men on a Bike.I learned something useful, I don't fancy the surface of the Canal du Midi! Lots of interesting visits & filming, but I find it hard sometimes to suspend disbelief & forget there is a camera crew & support team also present

"There was an expectation" doesn't sound like T & C's were nailed down. Did the school request the funding for its own exclusive use & if so what was DCC's response? Who would have opened & closed the facility out of hours? Can correspondence be FOI'd? Did councillors have a vote re the grant?
