Evidentiary Pragmatism in Transgender Health Care | AJPH | Vol. 116 Issue 3 American Journal of Public Health (AJPH) from the American Public Health Association (APHA)

It took a hot minute, but I can finally share my new paper on evidentiary pragmatism in transgender health care!

In it, I propose a new principle for evaluating scientific evidence based on the best reasonably achievable evidence, avoiding the ‘catch-22’ where trans care can never be justified.

Given that multiple people came up to shake my hand afterwards, I think it's safe to say it was well received.

Though despite my intro, I did need to clarify that only the words of one verse and chorus were mine alone. (2/2)

Various USians have adapted Come Out Ye Black and Tans for their situation in the past few weeks.

This morning I combined several of those together, added a few tweaks myself, and then tonight performed it on ukulele to bring it back here to Ireland. (1/2)

A two-inch badge with the text "Yes I'm trans... Why'd you ask?". The background is a diagonal rough trans flag, and the foreground has a Blahaj. It's worn on a red flannel top.

My "Yes I'm Trans.... Why'd You Ask?" pin has people asking a lot of questions already answered by my pin.

Me: Being trans isn't my whole life

Also me: I just wrote a poem about a Freedom of Information request, one of 3 pieces I'll be performing about trans healthcare at an open mic tonight

I'd suggest reaching out to the Gay Health Network, there's a good chance they'd be interested in helping.

The last occasion I had to fill time, I started playing songs I kinda knew but hadn't practised before. Mostly worked out.

I was once looking to fill a room in an department I was renting over, and people were surprised that I bothered to let them know that someone else had gotten it. Seems like basic courtesy to me.

The were several articles in the last week about youth mental health that answered that question: not very well.

A screenshot from yet another anti-trans opinion piece in the Irish media, this time from The Irish Times. It reads, "The department has not issued guidelines on transgender students since 2016. These guidelines are under review by Maynooth University, but the landscape has changed greatly since then. The UK Cass Review is central to that change. Not only does the Know Your Rights guide not reference it, but it also acts as if it never happened."

The eagerness of some people for Ireland to follow the UK in its anti-trans crusade is genuinely worrying.

If the UK jumped off a cliff are we supposed to follow?

A brown iced cake. Written on it in buttercream is "McDowells, 2025-2026, REST IN PUNK". There is a border of buttercream, with black cherries in the corners. Dr. Blåhaj looks on.

Dr. Blåhaj is sad to hear that a venue her housemate frequented is closing down today, and would like to come along to console those affected.

I personally suspect it's more that she's got her eye on the Chocolate Fudge Forest Gateau.

This was at DYKEish which is monthly, though I think I'll need some new material before I perform there again.

I just did my first public ukulele performance at an open mic, of the first song I've written.

"Sip Bro", as is hopefully obvious, falls under the genre of HRTcore.

No wailing, screaming, or fainting was apparent, nor do I think they noticed the one mistake I made.
