My housemate was a projectionist at a local indie theater, and could get in free pretty much anywhere since he knew all the theater staff. If I went with him, we'd split the cost of my ticket if I bought popcorn.

I had similar experiences in my most movie-crazed days of my 20s, when my housemate and I would go see nearly every movie that came into theaters. Saw Seven knowing nothing and Pulp Fiction with only "from the guy who directed Reservoir Dogs". Wish I could have more of that magic nowadays.
