I do have issues with so many outspoken voices putting this at the feet of Trump and MAGA though. It goes well beyond them.

Are they wrong? Evil? Etc.? Yes.
But they too are tools of a broader movement working to gain “final” power for decades.

That nails much of the psychology behind where we are - hand in hand with active manipulation of facts, and the accompanying cognitive dissonance, you have a perfect storm for self-destructive behavior.

Unlike Germany, we are in a populist movement - led by an extreme and vocal minority.
