Someone just asked me about getting started as a literary translator and I realized I already have kind of a starter pack of content to help emerging translators.

English is way harsher on repetition than Japanese, so part of a light novel translator's job is tweaking the wording so it says the same shit, but without sounding redundant.
I thought I'd do a rundown of a few tricks that help with this.

Already in love with this, starting with the title.

“A human artist will research the material properly, with all the nuances of human emotion and logic, and ultimately produce art assets that are historically accurate, game specific and have soul”.

I know I keep harping on about this, but this really is what good human game localization does too.

I've always loved the basic chemistry of 明 (spotting the moon on a sunny day always makes me smile, so yes, cheerful&bright!), but 朝 is a close second. I like imagining the sun peeking through the trees as it rises while the moon still lingers in the sky...

As always, the question is: How do translators and adaptors make the decision to localize cultural references?

The only downside I've seen so far is the spellcheck is a little lackluster and does not support multiple languages at the same time (so when I use it for translation, the Japanese is just one giant red squiggly line).

Cannot recommend enough! I don't even use all the features on it, but the ability to organize longer projects, save draft snapshots, and save different resources like pdf is huge.
