20.08.2025 04:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This stunning metallic green sweat bee - Agapostemon virescens - is a new yard bee in our backyard. Itβs about a third the size of a honey bee π. For scale the center of the flower is the size of a dime.

It amazes me to see how much pollen this bumblebee has on their legs. The wild sweet peas at Discovery Park are a buffet for bees π. It was heartening to see quite a few different species of bees enjoying the flowers.

If you learn them and follow your ears you might see owls #π¦, hawks or eagles π¦
you otherwise would have missed.
This handheld video and photos were shot with a Sony 200-600mm lens at 600mm and cropped to keep a respectful distance from the wildlife.
Seeing a fledgling Barred owlet is one of the things that makes Discovery Park a unique wildlife oasis in Seattle. Sometimes the best way to see predators like owls is by using your ears.π Birds like robins, crows and songbirds all have alarm calls when predators are near.
