Happy Halloween! Here's a fun fact about owls for spooky season. Owls fluoresce pink under UV light. This is due to pigments called porphyrins, and helps researchers age owls. There are more pigments on new feathers, so younger owls glow more uniformly bright pink.

A chunky, medium-sized bird introduced into North America from Eurasia, the Chukar is a pale-colored, but boldly patterned bird. In Washington, cheatgrass and wheat seeds make up the majority of the Chukar's diet. Many of its major food sources, like Chukars, have been introduced from Eurasia.
