It’s still good to talk about support for families, but birth rates primarily reflect increased desire to do something besides parent.

No more articles that fret about “declining birth rates” that don’t acknowledge how much of the global post-industrialization population boom reflects women and girls forced into pregnancies that don’t happen in the same way today because of increased access to rights, contraception, education.

Just look at how much of the birth rate decline in America is girls now having increased ability to prevent and delay pregnancy long enough to become adults, finish their educations. Almost none of these birth rate panic articles mention this baseline shift, it’s IMO journalistic malpractice.
