This really feels like a defining post of our time

I voted against the budget because it did not make the rich pay their fair share. At a time when the federal government is slashing taxes on the wealthiest and on big corporations, we need the state to stand up. Working people deserve more than crumbs, we deserve a piece of the pie.

Proud to have passed a bill to prevent towns from banning homeless shelters in Maine. Everyone needs to do their fair share to help our neighbors in need.

When one town in Maine bans homeless shelters, it adversely affects other towns and the individual who is forced to leave their community. If every town in the state does their fair share, we can keep our unsheltered neighbors from dying.

*mixed income* not middle income. The idea is that higher income earners cross subsidize the more affordable units in exchange for lower rents themselves.

Portland City Council establishes social housing task force The group, which will be appointed by the mayor, will explore how to establish middle-income housing that would be owned, operated and managed by the city.

Social Housing ensures affordable, mixed-income, tenant controlled housing in perpetuity. If we want to create housing as a community good and a human right, rather than a market commodity, this must be part of the solution.
