I've bought a lot of furniture over my many years as an adult, may from IKEA too. I can't think of a single time I brought it home myself.
Why put yourself through that inconvenience?
So I never understood why ppl think you *need* to have parking lots for these stores.

Kids need freedom. Dangerous roads make it hard to grant it.
Bigger cars, distracted drivers and worried parents mean fewer kids are roaming freely.
The number of children injured or killed by cars while walking or riding a bike has fallen steadily since the 1970s, but CDC researcher note that this decline is not because streets are safer, but because fewer kids are out and about in the first place.

Mamdani Leads NYC Mayor Race By Nearly 20 Points: New Poll
Pollsters spoke to registered voters citywide between Aug. 4-7.
New poll!
Mamdani 44
Cuomo 25
Sliwa 12
Adams 7
Pretty great news, and this is not the main takeaway, but do pause a moment to consider exactly how thoroughly you have to screw up to be the incumbent mayor of New York City and poll at 7 percent. patch.com/new-york/was...

3 dead after car crashes into coffee truck, pedestrians in Astoria
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was speeding before slamming into the parked coffee truck.
A devastating crash in Astoria has left three people dead. I'm heartbroken for the victims and their loved ones.
We can't normalize this. It's time to commit to streets that are safe for everyone.

One of the biggest issues in the US is that due to the suburban experiment, a majority of Americans do not live in an urban area. This sets America apart from most developed countries and has a huge effect on our politics.

New York, NY β Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City, today announced βZohranβs Law,β a plan to protect the cityβs rent-stabilized apartments from being occupied by high-income individauls, ensuring these limited, affordable units go to New Yorkers who actually need them.
Under Cuomoβs proposal, when a rent-stabilized apartment becomes vacant, the incoming individual income would be capped so that the annual rent makes up at least 30 percent of that income. For example, if an apartment rents for $2,500 a month ($30,000 per year), the new tenantβs income could not exceed $100,000.
New York City is in the grip of a housing emergency. The city does not have enough units, and the drastically low vacancy rate is driving up prices, squeezing families, and forcing many to leave in record numbers.
In urban policy, it is considered bad for someone to be rent-burdened (spending at least 30% of their income on rent). But Cuomo's newly proposed law would *require* that people be rent-burdened. Absolutely insane.

This law would mean that if my wife and I choose to leave the apartment we've shared since 2018, the minimum we can pay in rent is double what we pay now - and we're a university employee and a publicist...
Running on killing the middle class of a city in an affordability crisis is a weird angle.

It's really confusing that Cuomo is doing anti-rent stabilization, especially since it's hurting the people he lost in the primary. He won over the poor and the rich, but he lost the middle. And that middle group really benefits from rent stabilization. It just doesn't make any political sense.
