Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025.

This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

Cis woman confronted by police officers in Arizona Walmart restroom for looking too masculine speaks out (exclusive) β€œThe only men in the women’s restroom were the cops,” Kalaya Morton said.

Advocate [Mar 8] -- An AZ Walmart called the cops on a Black cis lesbian who is stud-identified while using the restroom to put in a tampon. "The only men in the restroom were the cops," she said after. Even after raising her shirt one insisted she "looked like a man." [@rikiwilchins.bsky.social‬]

one of my central beliefs, really genuinely and sincerely is that cars are fundamentally evil and indoctrinate people into extremely reactionary ideology.
I am not joking.

What happens when the internet disappears? Huge swaths of the web are vanishing. What does that do to our culture?

I'm at @theverge.com today talking about digital decay, link rot, watching my work slowly being erased from the internet, and how it makes me feel like I am fading away.

We're Concerned: Billionaire Peter Thiel Backs Controversial Magazine's Cycle-Tracking App Peter Thiel, billionaire entrepreneur and top campaign donor has decided to back a "femtech" app called 28, created by the divisive Evie Magazine.

No, nothing to be concerned about here with Peter Thiel investing in femtechs, like this period tracking app. futurism.com/neoscope/pet...

Shroud Waving On trans death, callousness, ancestors

Please read this by @morganmpage.bsky.social on trans death

"Reframing our very real proximity to death as a fit of manipulative hysteria is one way to inure the public to our pain and ultimately make our destruction seem not only possible but necessary."

81 Democrats voted to ban gender affirming care for the children of military families. Absolutely disgraceful. This is the first national ban on care to pass congress and the first anti LGBTQ bill in nearly 3 decades.

I was told explicitly by a top nyt exec, Carolyn Ryan, that the nyt would never hire a trans journo who’d ever covered trans issues. By her account, a trans journo versed in the issues is by definition biased. That is not ofc a standard the nyt applies to any other group or issue. (Nor should it)

This is literally true.

School vouchers were pioneered as a way to help white supremacists send their kids to a new wave of private "segregation academies" created expressly for the purpose.

From my book WHITE FLIGHT:

Will Democrats Let the GOP Gut Trans Health Care? Donald Trump and Republicans may try to ban funding to companies that perform trans health care. Some fear Democrats won't stop them.

i spent a month investigating how republicans could cut off access to trans healthcare for most americans, and how democrats can likely stop them β€” but it’s unclear if they will.

We shouldn’t accept that a CEO killer must get a national manhunt when cops don’t solve most murders at all. A migrant teenager was just murdered in NYC, cops just killed a guy here β€” the lives of these other people are worth just as much as that CEO.

Nancy Mace has now posted multiple videos using the slur "tranny."

Importantly these policies are discussed bans on public funding for trans care but, as trans adults even with private insurance in Florida and South Carolina are learning, it leads to hospitals canceling all appointments because they don't separate public/private funding streams

The sinister effectiveness of the β€œThink about detransitioners*” argument is that it implicitly gives cis people gender dysphoria-like feelings, which make them uncomfortable, which they then use to punish people who experience those feelings with far more frequency.

This is hard to listen to. It's pretty clear that the conservative majority has already decided that trans people aren't worthy of legal protections and this is all a formality.

That a right-wing lawyer just suggested before the Supreme Court that Americans don't have a right to not conform is... a real mask-off moment in a way I suspect is not going to get enough attention.

Seems really clear that the conservative majority is drawing up a broad decision that would say it's not sex based classification and that trans people do not meet quasi suspect class status. I can't tell you just how bad it would be. It would fully greenlight draconian laws.

Rice says that the democratic process is the best check on discrimination.

Sotomayor destroys him and says how can it protect 1% of the population when historically, the democratic process didn't protect Black people or women from centuries of discrimination.
