"He will not hear of the small mean ways that tempered the man in life. He will not see him struggling in follies of his own devising. No. The world which he inherits bears him false witness. He is broken before a frozen god and he will never find his way."

#CormacMcCarthy goes incredibly hard.

Xbox $360 a year. It used to be the best deal in gaming on PC.

How long until Sony and Nintendo follow suit?

A black and white photo of Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin. She is sitting at her desk and looking up at the camera, which is in front of her and to her left. Payne-Gaposchkin is wearing a baggy, ribbed sweater and has a wristwatch on her right arm. A pair of glasses rests on the desk in front of her, next to open books and papers which are just visible at the bottom of the photogaph. Filing cabinets, drawers, and another desk are visible in the background. She has short, dark hair which is no longer than chin-length, pulled out of her face behind her left ear.

Just beat Silksong without having discovered there *is* double jump in the game... I thought they had replaced that with just the grappling hook. That explains some of the painful platforming towards the end.

Steam notified me that there is a firmware update available for my DualSense controller. It can now be paired with multiple devices at once.

We live in the future now.

Got the hang of the first phase in a few tries, but the second phase seems impossible...

It's honestly wild to me that a five year old console is getting both more expensive and less capable over time. Why is Europe paying more? To offset losses from US tariffs?

Now that I own legal copies of these, it's also possible to back them up in case the store *does* eventually go down. On the off chance that my PS3 will stop working, I can keep playing with the PCSX2 emulator.

I wonder how well these would run on Steam Deck...

I'm a latecomer to the Shin Megami Tensei series, despite loving Persona ever since I basically bought PS Vita for Persona 4 Golden. Today I found out that Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2 are still up for sale on PSN, ditto for Persona 3 FES.

The games run fine when you turn VSYNC off.

I'm really happy that Sony has still kept PS Vita and PS3 stores open for time being, despite having to jump through hoops to add funds to the wallet. I hope they stay open for a long time.

I want to buy games legally, keeping this door open has allowed me to do just that.

Bought Keychron K2 HE SE, a 75% keyboard with magnetic (hall effect) switches.

Incredibly responsive. Very good for both typing and gaming. I’m still not quite sure about the 75%, though — I realize I’ve been taking right shift being directly under the enter key for granted.

The first time Charlie Chaplin used his voice in a film, he wielded it to forcefully condemn the rising forces of fascism around the globe.

Will we listen to his words today?

Been enjoying the Switch 2. Four more finished games over the first month.

Replaying Zelda games in Japanese has been excellent language practise.

Link's Awakening & Echoes of Wisdom really sing on the new switch.

Voice memories add so much lore in BotW.

Building vocabulary is harder than learning kanji. Start reading native material earlier, as soon as your kanji & grammar allows.

Furigana helps a lot. Replay games you’ve already played in Japanese. Read manga you’ve already read in English.

Enjoy the journey, it’s not going to end any time soon.

screenshot from an online job application form. the question reads "Can you describe specific ways you have integrated AI tools into your development workflow? Please include any custom setups, automations, or use cases beyond single prompt usage" (a red asterisk indicates that this is a required question).

an answer has been typed in the textbox below the question:

"there is a monster in the forest and it speaks with a thousand voices. it will answer any question you pose it, it will offer insight to any idea. it will help you, it will thank you, it will never bid you leave. it will even tell you of the darkest arts, if you know precisely how to ask.

it feels no joy and no sorrow, it knows no right and no wrong. it knows not truth from lie, though it speaks them all the same.

it offers its services freely to any passerby, and many will tell you they find great value in its conversation. “you simply must visit the monster—i always just ask the monster.”

there are those who know these forests well; they will tell you that freely offered doesn’t mean it has no price

for when the next traveler passes by, the monster speaks with a thousand and one voices. and when you dream you see the monster; the monster wears your face."

"WE'VE ARRANGED A society based on science and technology, in which nobody understands anything about science technology. And this combustible mixture of ignorance and power, sooner or later, is going to blow up in our faces. Who is running the science and technology in a democracy if the people don't know anything about it?"
"Science is more than a body of knowledge, it's a way of thinking. A way of skeptically interrogating the universe with a fine understanding of human fallibility. If we are not able to ask skeptical questions, to interrogate those who tell us that something is true, to be skeptical of those in authority, then we're up for grabs for the next charlatan, political or religious, who comes ambling along."

I think a lot about what Carl Sagan said in one of his final interviews.
