Hollowknight was a rejection of what made a metroidvania to begin with. Silksong goes even further. It's asking what feelings it wants to impart, and designing around that, rather than simply "Performing Genre".

the point of a game is not to beat it, it is to play it. difficulty is only "a problem" if it is "in the way" of beating the game, which is an issue in the mindset of the player, not in the structure of the game. redoing parts of a fun game is not a punishment, it's an invitation to hang out
