21.02.2026 16:52 — 👍 480 🔁 395 💬 10 📌 64Just sever all ties with academia.edu and move instead to a better service like Knowledge Commons: hcommons.org
Here's my profile page for an example of what you can get with ca. 15 mins of work: hcommons.org/members/josc...
Additional advantage: No more spammy, scammy e-mails!
People, go to Knowledge Commons instead! It's free too, but importantly it's open and non-commercial. As a basic example of what you can do with it, here's my page there hcommons.org/members/airm...

I mean, I'm honestly surprised that you're not familiar with it, but I guess that it might be less noticeable if you're not on the receiving end of it.
Like, there's tons of statements by politicians, it's been a cornerstone of the Output of Yglesias & similar types etc.
We invented the Internet to work remotely. Then developed all the tools we might need. Then had a world historical event prove that remote work was effective and necessary.
22.02.2026 11:07 — 👍 407 🔁 143 💬 5 📌 10I honestly have trouble thinking about anything engaging with that theory because it seems so obviously absurd.
I guess one could regard e.g. the whole research into managing commons and sustainability (in various forms) as an implicit repudiation
I think it's completely absurd and the premise can be easily disproven by looking at loads of things - e.g. alpine village charters often started by stating plainly that you need rules because otherwise people would forget how to preserve the commons properly!

Yeah, I always found it strange how often 'Middle Ages' gets equated with 1) The area of what is now the UK & 2) literary studies on top of that.
Seems more myopic than even eurocentrism & leads to stuff like people trying to mine literary texts for things for which they're not suited for
It’s the Government’s duty to protect all communities - including trans people.
They’re failing to do that.
Trans people deserve safety and dignity.

I was disappointed to read Cory Doctorow's post where he got weirdly defensive about his LLM use and started arguing with an imaginary foe.
