20.02.2026 22:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Anyway, great place.
20.02.2026 21:29 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I feel like if they got an English person to do it, it would start with, "As you come into the main hall, you're probably thinking, what the actual fuck am I looking at? And it's a good question."
20.02.2026 21:28 β π 17 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Share in this moment of fucked-upness with me! We'll discuss the details later! Don't talk about it like it's just some weird church!
20.02.2026 21:27 β π 8 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Imagine, like, being eaten by the kraken or something, and there's a nice Spanish lady telling you about how the tentacles lined with suckers clearly indicate it's an octopoid rather than a squid and isn't that interesting?
20.02.2026 21:25 β π 14 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We had the audio tour thing in, and it was technically fine - Spanish woman, obviously, speaking perfect English, can't fault it. But eventually it really got on my nerves because I wanted her to occasionally express what everyone there was thinking, which was, "This is fucking weird, right?"
20.02.2026 21:23 β π 17 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's like there's nothing for your imagination to latch onto. You go in expecting a cathedral and it's just...not that?
20.02.2026 21:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Mate, it's fucking huge. And basically all the internal space is completely useless! It's so badly designed it's incredible.
20.02.2026 21:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Singular, ridiculous things that would never have been made in normal circumstances, but happened to have been conceived at the precise right moment to allow them to be brought into being against all odds, and now persist into less courageous times to baffle us with their enormity of ambition.
20.02.2026 21:15 β π 12 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Some things in this world defy categorisation. Some works of art just Are. You can't have an opinion on them, not really. They're just too immense, too loaded with the weight of passion and labour.
20.02.2026 21:12 β π 14 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0Just an absolutely wild thing to exist. Everything about it is a spectacularly terrible idea, but it's a folly - literally and figuratively - on such a grand scale that you can't help but be glad it's there, and they're so determined to finish it.
20.02.2026 21:10 β π 18 π 1 π¬ 3 π 0I visited Barcelona last year and did the Sagrada Familia tour. I honestly can't tell you if I liked it or not. It was both awe-inspiring and left me completely cold and confused. The interior is both vast and too cramped to serve its function. It's as ugly as it is beautiful. Highly recommended.
20.02.2026 21:07 β π 51 π 6 π¬ 2 π 0It's just that his creator is Capitalism, and we're the punchline, not the audience.
20.02.2026 20:51 β π 26 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0The thing about him is he's a very funny *character*. Like, if he was on a TV show, living in a fictional world, he'd be the funniest thing in it. He doesn't actually know that he's funny, nor is he trying to be funny: he's singularly joyless and spiteful. But as a comic creation, he's unequalled.
20.02.2026 20:50 β π 38 π 3 π¬ 3 π 0A long, wedge-shaped robot with three banded legs - one on each corner - and its smiling face on the wide end. A large speech bubble coming from it shows pi to 383 decimal places, with the final rows gradually fading out towards the bottom of the frame.
455) Pibot. Knows all the decimal places of the mathematical constant pi. Will continue reeling them off until the heat death of the universe if you let it. #SmallRobotsRemastered

20.02.2026 18:45 β π 2016 π 440 π¬ 18 π 7"this enormous trump loss obviously helps trump"; this is doomerism and is super counterproductive. don't do that shit.

20.02.2026 18:57 β π 18 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0It's not us hating you, it's every geopolitically friendly country having multiple news stories about your government's secret police snatching our countrymen who are over there for valid reasons & throwing them in concentration camps & we don't want to risk that for a holiday.

20.02.2026 16:57 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Listen, the thing about Trump is that, even if someone slights him in some way, he does the mental calculus about the consequences of going after them and takes into account all the other ways they've helped, rewarding loya- *Holds finger to earpiece* Hold on, just getting an update here...
20.02.2026 15:50 β π 68 π 5 π¬ 2 π 0And, like, within a year or two there was a far right takeover of the Tory party and Braverman et al were up there making speeches about "cultural Marxism" and "rootless metropolitan elites" and we were back to being told that it was paranoia to suggest there might be some implications there.

20.02.2026 12:15 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The thread quouted in my OP explains it better than I can. The smearing of his father as a Marxist who hated Britain falls into the same category too.
20.02.2026 12:12 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The picture of him eating a bacon sandwich in a slightly awkward way that arguably tanked his campaign.

20.02.2026 12:05 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That's really interesting, thanks! I think that attitude - that antisemitism was effectively stamped out in all the places you'd expect to find it in UK politics - made us all a bit complacent in the ensuing years, and that's why it was treated as such a shock to find it in left-wing spaces.
