Looking for cool crafts with a focus on anti-ICE messages, nautical and pirate themes, queer stuff, and Our Flag Means Deathβas well as just generally neat, pretty crafty items!

We loved getting our Imagination Library books - so thoughtfully curated!

17.02.2026 00:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Iβve seen the critique that making these hats isnβt βdoing anythingβ but Iβd say raising 3/4s of a million for their local food shelf and rent assistance org seems like doing a lot.

A knitted triangular shawl alternating garter and stockinette texture, and tonal burgundy yarn with silver/ pink sparkly handspun contrast. Pattern is called Cheap Date shawl.
A simple red cable texture hat. Pattern is Jason's Cashmere Hat. Just a stash buster.
A very Bubblegum pink shawl, color fading between a pale and bright pink. It is primarily stockinette, with slip stitch and eyelet sections to break it up. I think this pattern was called May I Borrow This Please, or something like that. I can look it up on request.
A large rectangular shawl in lace. Main color is silver, and it runs through a contrast color sequence of pinks and reds, ending at a couple shades of Grey. Pattern is Softly Spoken.
It's reds and pinks for #ShowMeYourKnits this week, and it turns out I really love red/burgundy, so these are just the most recent FOs in those colors I found.
The Bubblegum pink one was a kiddo request, in case you looked at this sequence and thought one of those was not quite like the others π.
Yeah, I'm refusing to watch until the whole thing has dropped because I think that half season release model is ridiculous.

Quote posting this so I don't lose it because this sounds incredibly my jam.
10.02.2026 19:23 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not sure if this fits your definition of "not twee," but maybe try Emily Winfield Martin? We have The Wonderful Things You Will Be and Day Dreamers, and they are both lovely. And actually scan well, which is my biggest peeve with a lot of rhyming stuff π.

Listen, Listen by Phyllis Gershator. Has always been a delight to read even when it was in heavy rotation, and we still revisit it periodically at 5.

Also just watched Kiki's Delivery Service for the first time recently and was delighted to see the original source of this gif, which really captures a Whole Mood.

T is for Thistle Thorn Cowl. A very fun knit in yarn with slow color changes.
The fact that AI boosters always go to βbut art is EXPENSIVEβ is telling.
Most people started with crayons, lined school paper, cheap pencils, ballpoint pen, the back of junk mail and misprinted pages.
Art supplies can be outrageous but you can make art with literal trash
Absolutely.
We're currently alternating seasons of a Good Place re-watch + New Girl, all from library borrowing :).
Absolutely this. Many of our DVDs and CDs are secondhand, between thrift + used bookstore.

Shitty people can make good and even great art. Likewise, dropping a favorite artist after you realize you can no longer support them can feel like a divorce or a friend breakup because they and their work were just that important to you. That shit hurts, even when it's necessary for you.
