What’s a legit alt to Facebook groups? I share writing prompts, book recs, grammar tips, how tos, and other resources. I also host group writing sprints. But thanks to the algo, my group rarely sees my posts now. I’m starting a live series tomorrow, but no one knows.

Yes! I can’t wait for the Bride sequel. 😍 I confess, I haven’t gotten past chapter 2 in Quicksilver. I have to finish for my book club meeting, but I’m also hosting JaNoWriMo in my group, so every spare moment is going to hitting that 50K goal. 😅

Oh good. I’m glad you have someone to work with. And I hear you about the self-funding. I’m in the same boat on the author side of the biz. Pacing and plot holes are so much fun!!! (I mean fixing them. 🤣) It’s like looking at a puzzle and making sure all the pieces line up. ^_^

Are they your ideal reader? Do they LOVE your genre? Do they understand 1st drafts are for telling & experimenting & capturing ideas for you to revise later?

No? They’re not the people to give you quality feedback.

That was my problem for almost 20 years, and when I finally gave myself permission to write crap and have fun and think of my first draft as a playground, the words flew onto the page. I’ve published 3 books now, and they’re definitely not crap. ^_^

4. Make that first draft fun. Think of it as your playground, like you’re talking to your best friend. Give yourself permission to tell instead of show so you capture the essence of the scenes or the big idea you’re trying to grasp and convey.

3. Remember first drafts aren’t supposed to be perfect prose. The only expectation / goal / win when a first draft is finishing it. ♥️

2. Dig deeper into your characters. What do they desire most, what do they actually need, and what festering wounds are they carrying around?

When I feel this what, I have a few go-tos to turn this around:

1. Go back to you big why: why this story, these characters, this message? What excited you about this WIP?
