A slender bird with a long, sharp bill and sleek blue plumage stands alert on a leafy branch. Its chest is adorned with intricate pale feather patterns, and elegant neck plumes drape over its back.

It's hard to believe these birds are real, even when you have hundreds of them right in front of you.

I share with you the seventh image in my Dark Reflections series, "Ticket to Ride." Folks familiar with the series will notice several call-outs to previous images, as this station is the nexus though which my characters travel through time and space to their ultimate fates. Enjoy and share:)

A grossly disfigured, hulking man ferries a boat through vermillion swamp. He holds an ornate rapier at the ready while pushing the craft with a makeshift pole gripped in his offhand. Gentle ripples in the water—highlighted in pink—radiate from the boat. The synthetic man's black hair and red cast skin are native to Barsoom, but his face is grotesquely asymmetrical with one huge eye bulging. His other eye is barely visibly as his face droops and his mouth slants at a sharp diagonal. His frame is comically top heavy with tense, striated muscle concentrated in his yolked shoulders and broad chest. At the bow of the boat, a Barsoomian woman decked in jewels and not much else is caught in a moment of surprise as she spies monstrous creatures ahead. A green, six-legged lizard with yellow eyes emerges from the water, stretching its jaws to reveal a mouth of jagged fangs. On an uprooted tree nearby perches an enormous insect with pincered mandibles, barbed tail, and translucent fly-like wings

On a dusty, tilted horizon, the Gunslinger stands with pistols gripped and angled down toward the ground. Bodies pile at his feet. Dozens more extend in a line that snakes into the foreground. Various weapons—scythes and machetes, bricks and boards—lay discarded in the dirt beside the twisted, bloody corpses. The scene is absolute carnage served up for the viewer who has the point of view of next in line.

Honestly, me too.

If you don’t think that at some point he’s going to show more interest in the 5,044 nuclear weapons he controls, you’re as deluded as the people who thought he’d never tank the stock market and the economy.

I would wager that with steady practice and some instruction, you would produce some delightful drawings and learn to love the craft. The hard part of learning a difficult skill like drawing is surviving the early stages with one's passion intact. Knitting, on the other hand, I completely agree on.

This piece exudes such optimism and freshness. A tonic.

With flowers decorating her long dark hair, a young woman draped in flowing white fabric spreads her arms wide as she dances along the top of a moss covered wall. The narrow path set high in the clouds unwinds like a ribbon, zigzagging left to right and back again. As the path recedes into the distance breaks become larger and more apparent.

A girl in yellow jacket hugs a teddy bear while standing at the center of a Fibonacci spiral that unwinds labyrinth-like on the face of a domed structure. Off panel in the foreground, the sun squats low casting long shadows of skeletal trees across weathered concrete. The sliver of sky overhead is cloudy gray. Geese flap by in chevron formation migrating toward skeletal trees lit with golden light, warmth revealed at the edge of the retreating dome as it slopes downward toward an unseen horizon.
