The technology grows piecemeal, in a well-intentioned effort to solve an immediate problem, to be fixed properly later. Until the next immediate problem arises. Rinse and repeat. The effort to unpick all of that while keeping the business running is staggering.

There is the risk of too much 'tick-box' compliance down that route, unfortunately...
