French edition of The Hobbit. The cover is based on the original one from 1937, with the color red added back, a color that was not used originally, to cut down on printing costs.

I have the black and gold pocket edition you have. I read it first with it in 2022. And I'm currently reading to my kid the version in the picture.

So there is a part of my homeland in Arda. That's a nice thing to learn about. (I'm from the other side of the RΓΆstigraben but shhhhh)

And furthermore, the actor in the gif is not Sir Ian McKellen. It's obviously Nicholas Hoult.

LotR ending is so bittersweet. I'm reading The Silmarillion myself. I like it very much.

Caution, it could be The Great Polar Bear. Father Christmas would be in trouble if GPB couldn't help him get ready for Christmas.

130Β£ ? I hate people doing this. Snatching Lego sets at the time of their release and making a profit out of them.

I don't remember most of them. So I'm choosing to talk about Ende again. I really loved the way he could make difficult topics accessible to children through his stories. Be it the appeal of power in The Never-ending Story or the lie that is our current work ethic in Momo.

I remember Milne's Winnie the Pooh books. My mother used to read them to me. I loved the pictures and the stories.

Later, I read some Michael Ende. The Never-ending Story, obv. But also Momo, a great story about a girl resisting literal time thieves.

There's also the fact that an album on vinyl in 44 min long tops. It's easier to stay focused on the music with albums that long than with longer ones, I think. And having to interact with it every 20 min or so is even better, IMO.

I love using mine. Rarely get it out of the box anymore though. For physical media to be useful to me, I need to have it lying around and minidiscs in piles in the living room. My spouse is made uncomfortable when there is too muich junk lying around. So I use my DAP. Next best thing after MDs.

I still take my player out of the box for a spin from time to time. Minidisc will forever be my favourite music listening medium.

I read in French. The first Silm translation is infamous for being quite bad. We got a new one a few years ago and it is waaaaay better.

Scary [1] Tolkien Time

"The way is shut. It was made by those who are Dead, and the Dead keep it, until the time comes. The way is shut"

[1] Consider to stop using spooky. It's got serious racist connotations.

I'm not surprised. I watched the video essay Boromir and our Relapse into Fascism for the 5th time last night and it resonates quite well with Mills' analysis.

I suppose Tolkien thought of them as demons or something of the sort. Or maybe I hope he did. I want to believe he didn't see any race as lesser than the other. And yet, he was born in South Africa and was an Englishman of colonial United Kingdom so there are racist undertones in his writings.
