Talking about geeky/nerdy things, how satisfying is creating shortcuts for the desktop with custom icons, and also adding a keyboard layout reference for when I use a US keyboard? The left icon turns the computer speakers on and off, and the other ones connect to a small Linux server at home.

… that worked on X11 on the Mac. I wish I remember its name. I only have the edited Illustrator files and fonts, but not a reference to the software I used.

Last time I remember doing something this cursed (or blessed?) was in 2009, when Mac OS X still included X11. I had to edit several .AI files to typeset translations in 13 languages. The font the client used didn’t have glyphs for Polish diacritics, but I found a free Unix font editor for X11…

3. There are paid alternatives for macOS (Jump Desktop and Royal TSX), but I didn’t need the extra expense.
4. There is a Linux RDP client called Remmina that works great, but the homebrew repo for Mac is long gone.
5. FreeRDP exists! www.freerdp.com

Why all that?
1. Fedora Linux only accepts RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) and I didn’t want to add the security risk of installing a VNC server.
2. The Windows App app (yeah, that’s the name, formerly Windows Remote Desktop) is a bloated mess that sometimes won’t connect to the Linux machine…

The geekiest thing I’ve done in years, maybe decades: Install xQuarzt (a X11/X Window replacement for modern macOS), then install FreeRDP through homebrew, configure a Fedora Linux machine on my LAN to accept incoming connections, and access its desktop remotely from the Mac.
Phew.

Now working on her hair. It’s scary, and I’m learning as I go. I’m happy so far.

… Total, que merece mucho la pena ver el vídeo al completo, aunque al principio sea más que duro, durísimo.

… Al ver a tanta gente, algún resorte se dispara en su interior y se planta contra los agentes de ICE, diciéndoles que no se van a llevar a esa mujer, que ella misma es nativa americana y que está enseñando toda la situación a sus miles de seguidores en TikTok.

Es realmente INCREÍBLE de ver.

… Cuando abre la puerta para entregarla, llorando y presa del pánico, ve que un montón de ciudadanos empieza a acercase a su casa, haciendo sonar silbatos de advertencia contra ICE y grabando lo que está ocurriendo. El agente de ICE ha intentado convencerla con amenazas veladas.

… La propietaria de la casa es muy consciente de que uno de los matones de ICE asesinó a otra mujer en plena calle sin motivo hace solo unos días, pero está aterrorizada por lo que pueda pasarle a su familia. Tampoco quiere entregar a la repartidora a ICE, pero se ve obligada a resignarse y hacerlo.

… La policía le dice que podrían denunciarla por dar cobijo a una fugitiva, pero la realidad es más compleja: la repartidora se ha _colado_ en su casa, así que no está dándole cobijo voluntariamente, y solo debe abrir la puerta a agentes de ICE si traen una orden judicial firmada.

… La repartidora, al ver que los matones de ICE la iban siguiendo hasta el lugar de la entrega, se cuela de repente en la casa de la mujer que había hecho el pedido. La propietaria de la casa, asustada, no quiere abrir a los agentes de ICE y llama a la policía para que le den consejo.
