"Thank you, Cait." There was a beat of silence on the other side of the line, and Vi wished she could see her face. "Are you still at The Last Drop?" "Yes," Vi nodded. "Vander thinks he can get in touch with Silco and agree to meet somewhere, they were... friends, partners, whatever, way back in the day. He thinks it was him that met up with Mylo and Claggor and he who commissioned the theft of Jayce's water thingy." "Silco?" Caitlyn asked. "I've heard that name before, I think.. I would have to ask my mother, but I think they've been trying to get him behind bars for years. If... I think if we could get enforcers on the scene and get Silco nobody would think twice about Mylo and Claggor's innocence." "Do you think that's possible?" "T'll call my mother and ask, can I call you back?" "Of course, are you coming back here or going home?" She knew Caitlyn must be tired — she sounded very tired, at least, but selfishly she wanted her there with her. "I'll get there if you want me there," she answered. Vi tried not to sound too desperate when she said "please", but she knew she failed. "T'll be there in twenty," Caitlyn answered, and hung up to call her mother again.

Vi didn't even bother to change out of her kit before putting her normal shoes on. She grabbed her jacket, put it down, pulled down her captain's armband, gave it to Caitlyn, and put her jacket on. Caitlyn made to give it to Zeri, the vice captain, but Vi stopped her with a hand on hers. "No, you." "But I'm not—she's the vice captain." "Yes," she nodded. "And you're the captain for today, they look at you on the pitch, Cait, you got this." Caitlyn wanted to tell her that no, she definitely didn't have this, but she was not going to argue with Vi about it when she was clearly worried sick about something, so she just said: "okay." Vi caressed her cheekbone softly before turning away and heading out, very nearly running, and when Caitlyn turned back to the rest of the team, they were all looking at her and the space where Vi had been like they had just witnessed something completely unexpected. Caitlyn didn't give any of them a chance to say anything, she just turned to Skye-also looking like she had seen a ghost-and asked: "who's going in for Vi?"

The following day they took it a bit easier at training, mostly because they had both ran themselves into the ground during the game and their legs were stiff, but they still did their one on ones, which were making Vi a so much better defender than she had been at the beginning of the year. Now they were almost on even playing ground, but sometimes Caitlyn still pulled a move that surprised her and left her with her mouth open and so far behind her that it wasn't even funny. It happened that day too, one moment Caitlyn was doing everything she always did when she sidestepped to the right, trying to keep the ball away from her—and usually succeeding—to then shoot, but this time she didn't do it. This time, instead of going to the right, she used her back foot to kick the ball in between Vi's legs, and then yes, she went to her right and shot top bins. Vi was still there in the position she had been when Caitlyn had nutmegged her. Nutmegged her. She hadn't been nutmegged in years. "You didn't seriously just do that," she said. "I believe I did," Caitlyn answered with a chuckle and a proud smile on her face. "How dare you?" Vi laughed too and started running after her. Caitlyn let herself be caught easily, and Vi tackled her to the ground, dragging her on top of her to soften the fall. Caitlyn leaned down further to kiss her, which was something they had never done on the football pitch and felt wildly exhilarating. "I had been wanting to do that since tryouts." "What? Kiss me?" She knew what she meant, but teasing her was so fun! She rolled her eyes: "nutmeg you."

Caitlyn smiled and gave her another kiss before getting out of bed and heading to the kitchen to have a breakfast she knew full well she wasn't going to be making They would train, then maybe she could inquire about Vi's favorite cake and get one made for her with will you be my girlfriend on the frosting, or was that too childish? She had never had a girlfriend before, she wasn't sure how people went about it, and she refused to ask Jayce for advice. Maybe she could ask her on the football pitch, not that she needed the distraction to beat her one on one, but it could be fun, couldn't it? She definitely liked this version better, it felt more real, more them. "You okay?" Vi asked when she made it out of her bedroom in just her boxers, which wasn't distracting at all, and hugged her from behind, her chest pressed against her back. "You looked lost." Caitlyn leaned into her with a smile, and she meant to say that she was okay, but what came out of her mouth was: "would you like to be my girlfriend?" So much for planning something cute. Vi went rigid behind her, and Caitlyn was about to start apologizing for ever mentioning it when she felt her lips against her shoulder over her shirt, and her entire body relaxed under that simple touch. She hadn't misread the situation, then. Good. "I would love to be your girifriend, Cait." She couldn't help a little "really?" "Yes," Vi chuckled. "Believe it or not, I had been meaning to ask you the same thing." "Sorry to steal your thunder." "I don't mind," Vi said, turning her around and kissing her. Caitlyn found herself rethinking her whole no sex before training rule when Vi pushed her delicately against the counter, but then she still pulled away: "may I request scrambled eggs for breakfast?"

The picture is a screenshot that reads: "Hey, Cait, your door was open," she said loudly as she opened it. "I know you said you're fine but I just wanted to-Cait!" Caitlyn was on the floor, hiccups shaking her entire body, and before she even fully realized what was going on, Vi was on the floor next to her, scooping her in her arms. Caitlyn buried her face in the crook of her neck without a word, and Vi started rubbing her back in circular motions which she hoped she found soothing, and she slowly stopped crying, pulling herself a little bit away from Vi and drying her cheeks. "Hey," Vi cupped one of her cheeks with her hand. "What's wrong?" "It's nothing," she shook her head, picking herself up off the floor. Vi did the same thing: "it's clearly not nothing, but it's okay if you don't... if you don't want to talk about it, can you at least let my try to comfort you?" She had only known her for a few months, and while Vi felt like she had never found someone who understood her as deeply as Caitlyn did, she might not feel the same way, she might not want to talk to her about whatever it was that had made her cry that much. Caitlyn nodded, and Vi picked up her grocery bag from the floor and headed to the kitchen.

The picture is a screenshot from ao3 Jayce greeted her with a "oh so you made up with your girlfriend" as soon as she opened the door to his car and got in the passenger seat. He was also invited to family dinners, but only once a month. "What? Who are you talking about?" "Oh come on, Sprout, you think you can keep anything from me?" he chuckled. "Vi." "She's not my girlfriend," Caitlyn told him, but she could feel her face burning red. "Hm-hmm, so you're telling me that you and Vi kissing last week after the gala had nothing to do with you being miserable all week and being so happy you're almost glowing right now?" he raised a brow at her.
