Looked a bit at the code. The directory hierarchy is reasonable, even implements some optimizations! How does it compare to GCC or clang? And how did they define what C is, did the agents have access to the spec, or was it fully defined by the test suite?

New Python Subcommittee, and Anaconda joins OpenMP ARB - OpenMP
Python will be the fourth officially-supported language in the OpenMP API, and leading Python infrastructure company Anaconda joins the OpenMP ARBΒ
The OpenMP ARB announces that Python will be supported in 7.0!

I wonder if this means full support a la Fortran/C/C++ or if it will focus on a subset, or just bindings for loading/running OpenMP programs from Python. Excited to see this development!

HPC codes do not usually face the public, they run firewalled in private networks. Thats not to say that there haven't been attacks, but it is not a main concern. Performance is what matters.

First, the ecosystem is vast and optimized; 2nd, codes evolve for many years, and there is no incentive in the huge investment of rewriting a large piece of software; and third, the security argument doesn't really fly.

In our HPC master program, I sense some interest in Rust, but nobody complains that the projects expect C/C++. In HPC, C/C+/Fortran still rule, and for a variety of reasons:

Nice talk by Sylvester Ledru on Rust Coreutils in Ubuntu!
x.com/i/status/20...
An interesting opener. Students don't want to learn C, they want to learn Rust. But I believe languages don't exist because they are technically better, they live to serve their communities.

Excited after the first week of our project course on parallel computing. Over the next 7 weeks, 92 students, assembled into teams of 6-7, will tackle an LLM inference optimization challenge (CPU+GPU), and containerize+run key HPC benchmarks (HPL, HPCG, HPL-MP, Graph500) on our local cluster Vera.
