Dr Philip Veal, Consultant in Public Health at UKHSA, said: 'We are seeing high levels of infections such as malaria and typhoid in returning travellers. It is important that travellers remain alert and plan ahead of going abroad โ even if youโre visiting friends and relatives abroad or itโs somewhere you visit often.'
Our provisional data shows record numbers of typhoid and paratyphoid cases in England, Wales & Northern Ireland.

Dr Gauri Godbole, Deputy Director for Gastrointestinal Infections, Food Safety and One Health at UKHSA, said: โWe are investigating a small number of cases of listeria. The cause of the outbreak isnโt confirmed yet. However, our laboratory testing has identified a potential link to a particular type of dessert, which is not available from retailers but is served in some NHS Trusts. Working with the Food Standards Agency, on a precautionary basis, we have advised NHS Trusts and those providing care to vulnerable people to stop serving these desserts while investigations are underway.
You may have seen reports of our investigation into a #listeria outbreak linked to desserts supplied to some hospitals and care homes.
