If COVID resulted in everyone getting harmless, untreatable, utterly gross pustules covering their entire face for weeks we wouldn't still be in a pandemic.

1. I've said exactly this for quite some time. Expanding on Adrian's @sillyputty78.bsky.social point on X / Twitter here, Covid-19 has three distinct characteristics as a disease that enables it to be denied at a societal level.

Important paper by members of the European Academy of Neurology. "Healthcare systems should be aware of, and be prepared for a potential increase in the incidence of neurodegenerative diseases in the upcoming years." What has been the state of surveillance and awareness so far? #NeuroCovid

Screening Colonoscopy Yields Among Adults Aged 45 to 49 Years After Lowering the Colon Cancer Screening Age

Lowering the colorectal cancer screening age to 45 is supported by similar adenoma detection rates between those aged 45 to 49 and those aged 50 to 54, with slightly lower prevalence in the younger group.

And MANY more studies to add.

I follow the literature and I know there are 150 k papers and 20 million gene sequences. Still, we don’t know what the global long term impact will be (cognition, hc resources, etc). I do get yr point, but atm I see a priority here. But I am only a Clin Res person, not a virologist, so just my 2 c.

One reason IMHO might be that it is a totally new, rapidly mutating virus about which we know little, esp long term effects on a global population, while we have studied flu for a 100 yrs. Another might be 2.5 Million flu deaths in the last five years vs. 20 Million COVID deaths.
