01.03.2025 00:06 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0People need to stop reacting to every little thing Trump posts. He blasts this stuff out in order for it to become white noise. Stay focused on what really matters.

Prophet of Chaos: It doesn't get better than this.
Don't forget that it was Trump who handed Afghanistan to the Taliban.

They Just don't fall into the "officially approved flags".
17.02.2025 00:44 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0To be fair. The law doesn't literally say that it is banning pride flags and allowing swastikas. It restricts the display of flags to officially approved flags, and the Nazi and Confederate flags can be temporarily displayed for educational and historical purposes.

While I recognize Boston's talent, they kind of hurt my ears in ways I don't quite understand.
I honestly had no idea it was that easy to rename Geographic Locations. The next Democrat President:
16.02.2025 23:47 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It is stupid, no doubt. But this really is the least of our concerns. This is what Trump does. He knows this is a cat-nip for the media outrage machine, and it creates a white noise background while he is actually pissing all over our founding documents.

05.02.2025 01:49 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I am not talking about the AI of ChatGPT. I am talking about attempts at hard AI or AGI, Works from people like Hofstadter or Alex Krizhevsky. Granted, they are nowhere near AGI, but they have concepts that are much better defined than Time Machines, etc.
05.02.2025 01:46 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Selfishly, I want these parks to stay open and fully staffed. That being said, I imagine the bears won't mind the break.

04.02.2025 02:39 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Is that true? Isn't that what hard AI is all about? Granted, they haven't been remotely successful, but we can certainly imagine it.
That being said, we don't have a great theory of consciousness that hinders any progress on this front, but this is really the soft problem of consciousness, right?
The laziest, weakest style of argumentation is "incredulity". It is not an argument that says anything other than your lack of imagination.

31.01.2025 02:29 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I get why it is interesting. I even get why it is hard in the soft sense. But when you take the leap into "it is a logical impossibility", you lose me -- hard.
31.01.2025 02:00 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Somebody needs to explain "The hard problem of consciousness" to me like I was a 5-year-old. I have read, listened to, and watched everything I can on the subject, and I just don't get it.
31.01.2025 01:59 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Not at all crackpot, imo. Modern life can feel like a constant struggle against uncaring systems enormously larger than any individual, which very naturally contributes to a sense of powerlessness. Ultimately not a stable basis for a democratic society.

Leonard Cohen - Songs from a Room
I am a sucker for the dead-pan understated voice carrying the personal weighty lyrics, and nobody does it better than Cohen (well maybe maybe John Cale).
AI is already so ubiquitous, that we can do nothing but have a nuanced conversation about its usages. Nobody is going to ban it, and we certainly need to limit its use in some cases.

27.12.2024 22:38 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0We'll see. I still have (wavering) faith that our institutions can withstand a 4 year siege. Especially if the Dems win one or both houses in 2026.
27.12.2024 21:45 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I wonder if Trump realizes that if he made Canada the 51st State, he would add a state with the population of California that would almost certainly be liberal leaning. that would mean giving the democrats another reliable 52ish electoral votes.
