It is neither nocturnal nor herbivorous on Rottnest Island, a tourist spot off the coast of Perth, Western Australia. There, the quokkas potter amongst visitors in broad daylight, and jump onto picnic tables demanding food. The island was called Rats' Nest by the first Dutch sailors who saw them.

This is what I finished recently for granddaughter 2, Hannah. The Mappa Mundi (c1300AD) is kept by Hereford Cathedral, showing the world as they saw it. It is filled with cities,
real & mythical animals, monsters, & Bible stories. Adapted & designed by the wonderful Nicola Jarvis & stitched by me.

When we lived in London we attended an Anglican church which had a German vicar who had migrated here. We took my father (WW2 soldier) to a Remembrance service there. Bernhard asked "Does your father know I'm German?" to which my father replied 'I fought so that men like him could come & live here".

This makes me proud of my local town, Leominster in Herefordshire. The people here are not painting STOP THE BOATS on the wall. They're working hard to remove the slogan.

We visited Rottnest a couple of years ago. We were told the quokkas were shy & retiring; in fact, they sat on outdoor cafe tables & demanded a share of everyone's food. Cute, yes, but they're little thugs!
