03.04.2025 01:26 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0We're in the 6th year of the pandemic. This sort of misinformation is one of the reasons people are still getting infected. They're being told to avoid people who are coughing / sneezing, but often no mention of asymptomatic spread, long-range transmission or the need for ventilation.
Do better.
There are even free courses for schools to make sure they understand how covid, flu and other viruses spread. . .

Virus-containing aerosol particles are produced all the time when an infectious person breathes and talks, NOT just when they cough or sneeze. They can be produced by people who are asymptomatic.

Because COVID is airborne, improving ventilation is important.
It's been known since 2020 that many viruses, incl covid, spread via infectious respiratory particles of a range of sizes. Large droplets (eg. from coughing, sneezing) fall to the ground, but small particles hang in the air and can travel long distances.

"It's important to know that the influenza virus, along with RSV, para-influenza, and COVID, are what we call 'droplet-spread viruses'," Professor Hespe said. "Each time you do the coughing and sneezing, those fluids are actually then potentially spreading to somebody else," Professor Hespe said.
Oh come on @samjnichols.bsky.social ABC News. When reporting on important health topics, you need to get the basic facts right.
The person you quote on droplet spread of covid and flu etc is dead wrong.

Today @burnetinstitute.bsky.social launched a report on COVID's impact on mortality in Australia. Oz experienced a low toll in the first 2 years, but 30,000+ have died since - now plateauing at 7,000+ deaths/year. What does this mean & what can be done? Read on...

"[QLD CHO] Dr John Gerrard said the sudden rise in Covid hospitalisations was unexpected."
Really? Amid a global wave driven by immune-evasive variants, with many not boosted, and no masks in healthcare?
A child could have predicted this.
