So, the Irish Far-Right are absolutely losing their mind over Robert Troy announcing that Westmeath Council will be in discussions to provide a designated spot for Muslims to bury their dead in Ballyglass cementary - a council-owned graveyard, the type which regularly facilitates all faith or none.

Believe it or not, I don't happen to be on here 24/7.
I can appriciate that Gary Gannon messed up, and took on board that he made a mistake. That is somehow a greater crime than just spouting far-right misinformation and refusing to back down after been corrected, like our Tรกiniste?

So-called "Pre-split Labour" existed when it faced little meaningful left-wing competition. Which just isn't the case now.
The alternative isn't a single Labour party on 14%. It's a Labour party in the single digits competing against Greens and PBP who also benefit from not competing with Soc Dems.
02.02.2026 10:29 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
May I ask what this "far right disinformation" relating to Gannon happens to be?
And FF (who plan to effectively end family reunification for many asylum seekers) and FG (whose leader was actively spouting misinformation against people in emergency accomodation) are somehow equilivant here?
02.02.2026 10:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
Labour has a much larger faction who still operate in the pre-2016 paradigm where they are on the team of "sensible centrists" with FFG and the Greens vs "The rabble populists".
You would struggle to find a Soc Dem who would see FFG as a preferable alternative to SF or anyone else on the left.

If you want an example, look at how each of them responded to the Catherine Connolly campaign - the Soc Dems were the first to back her, and did so with virtual unanimity. Labour had a significant minority within the old guard who outright rebelled against the decision to back Connolly.

"Less than the sum of their parts" how, exactly? If anything, I think the opposite is true - there are many within the Social Democrats who would not have joined the Labour party, and either stayed out of electoral politics, or else drifted towards the other left parties.

TBF, I thought the reason we had two education ministers wasn't so much because FF & FG both wanted an education brief, but that - for some reason - Micheรกl Martin just really got it into his head one day in 2020 that we *really* needed a specific ministry for Higher Education.

They're trying to murder these people. This isn't the first time, and it won't be the last.
In Canada, they called them "Starlight Tours." The intention was to take folks and dump them in remote places with the hope that exposure would do the killing for them.
This is attempted murder.

Grok is being used to create sexualised images of women and child abuse material which are posted on X.
So, why is the Department of Education still posting images of children to X?
If Government Departments are going to continue to use X, can they at least stop posting images of children?

Report #1 on the impacts of non-consensual deepfake image abuse.
Sonia suffered years of panic attacks and needed counselling after photos, some dating from when she was a teenager, were edited & uploaded on an explicit site with her personal info.
She's come forward because of the Grok scandal.

Tomorrow: The first of two reports from women speaking out for the first time about having their images manipulated explicitly without their consent.
They've suffered years of trauma, panic attacks and unsolicited messages from men.
This is why the Grok issue matters.

Article from the Indo interviewing Fergus Finlay and Terry Prone - 'Do they have hopes for the younger generations coming up behind the โgreatestโ one?
โThey must be very daunted at what lies ahead of them,โ Finlay begins. โSo were we, and we were less educated, less skilled, less talented, less able. Iโve never met a generation that is as confident, as able, as bright, as talented as this crowd. Now some of them are also bumptious, arrogant, noisy and loud.โ'
...it is kinda baffling to read that entire artocle interviewing them, and then near the end take a pot at the younger generations for being "arrogant", with no self-awareness.

Maybe itโs a bad thing that weโre completely clueless.
โIn fairness, we also seem to believe that over one-in-three Irish people are accessing social housing compared to the real figure of 9.2%, which begs the question: how much social housing do these people think that Ireland has?โ
